Above the clouds, but below the snowline
A valiant attempt was made at Mount Fisher, but before we got to the 'Saddle', where the narrow path and steep drop offs begin, the weather turned bad and we were snowed out.

It's a difficult hike - nearly every step was uphill. To give you an idea, it took 6.5 hours to complete a measly 6.5km. We turned back within an hour of the summit. It will now have to wait until next spring. It doesn't look like the peaks will loose their snow caps now. The weather is getting very cold.

Somebody had built a cool Inukshuk, which is a cairn, but in human form.

Being an out of towner, I found the hike an awesome experience - hiking in 3-4 inches of snow on a mountain was something I had never experienced, however I think Ian and Dave would have liked some clearer weather without the cold and snow. Walking in scree and craggy rocks in light snow is a difficult endeavor, as you never know what your landing on. It's like learning how to ice skate, or roller skate for the first time - you are constantly loosing balance as your feet land on

awkward angles. The more you loose balance, the more you put your hands in the snow to regain balance. My fingers were kinda chilled after a while. Thanks Ian for the ski gloves! I'll come better prepared next time!

In addition to downhill skiing this year, I'm really looking forward to some snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Snowshoeing at night is an awesome experience, so I'm told. There is so much more to the winter season here than just downhill skiing.

While I have been off gallivanting in the snow, Anne has been busy setting up meetings and organizing our trip to Bulgaria. We are both pretty excited, as we keep hearing alot of positive information about the future of the country.

Thanks to everyone who sent us a hello! It's really great great to hear from you all and know how things are going back home. Can't wait to see you!

Anne Hiking Mt Fisher?????
She was saving herself for drinking and dancing at Sandra's place that night!!!!!!! At least she could walk the next day. Not necessarily a straight line at the end of the night though. We had fun while our poor Adrian crashed from exhaustion.
