Here we are in enjoyable Edmonton where it is cold and winter. We left Mesa on April 6th and drove north through Nevada, Idaho and Montana to reach the Alberta border. Drove the second day in swirling snow which started to settle in Dillon, Montana. It was time to stop and we decided we were not going to out run the snow storm that was coming in. Settled into a campground and woke up the next morning to snow on the ground and a blizzard outside. We just stayed put. Made the best of our day by having a cocktail party for the other 4 units sitting out the storm. Very enjoyable. All were from the Alberta area. Ended up going for dinner with new Red Deer friends and travelled the next day with them to Lethbridge where we stayed at the Casino. They are very enjoyable people, Wayne and Faye.
Made it to Calgary the next day to attend Larry's cousin Linda Klem's husbands funeral. He had been sick for a few years with cancer and I think was ready to go. Hard on his family to see him suffer. Lots of relatives attended so it was old home week
for us.
Dropped our 5th in Carstairs for some work. Most should be covered by warranty but just never know. The brakes were completely shot right down to the drums, I think. Big job anyway. Maybe the worst part now is, they asked if it was winterized and we told them no that it was not. They said they would make sure the furnace stayed on and that would keep the tanks OK. Yesterday, when the tech phoned he said the 5th had frozen up because it ran out of propane in both tanks. 2 full 30 pound tanks but I guess it ran all the time. Anyway, we will wait and see if it caused any damage and if it did, whose fault is it!!!??? Not sure. We will just wait and see. We hope to leave Edmonton tomorrow, pick up our 5th and be on our way and home by Thursday or Friday. Have to buy whatever for our Easter dinner on Sunday.
April 25th Larry and I leave for Maui with Barry and Jan, a cousin from Edmonton. They have a 2 bedroom condo for 2 weeks, part of her moms timeshare so we can share it
with them. Hard to turn down. Flights were reasonable, next to nothing for accomodation and share a rental car. How can we resist. I start work on May 16th so that will put a stop to other spontaneous travels for the time being.
We intend on going back to lovely LaPenita in November. As much as we enjoyed our winter this year, LaPenita is where our hearts are.
The grandkids skiied all winter and apparently loved it. Isabelle (5) can ski a black diamond and Brady (3) can ski the Blues. Glad I am not there to watch. They have fun cause they ski with my nephew and his wife and their 3 kids about Isabelle and Brady's age. A real family outing. I guess ski season must be over because now they are into their new bikes.
Evan will come for dinner this weekend for Easter and he says he wants to stay over night so that will be nice. He is very happy but does miss us. He always says "I missed you mom" when I talk to him on the phone.
Left Edmonton on Wednesday and arrived home on Thursday. An uneventful trip, thank gosh. Drove through
Isabelle
Looks like she is wearing her usual, a princess dress and runners blizzards at times but nothing sat on the ground. Dropped our 5th at our house, and jumped in the truck to meet the kids at Burger Heaven. So nice to be home and share those awsome moments. The next day Mark phoned and we met them at a little local breakfast place. The kids rode their new bikes there and Larry and I walked. This is one of the reasons I love our apartment. Picked up our car from the body shop. Mark got rear ended a couple of weeks ago and there was big discussion because ICBC wanted to write it off. It is a 2000 Lexus SUV. Old but dependable. They would have given us $6,000 for it but what do we buy for $6,000 and then do we really need a second car that sits most of the year. Anyway, they decided to fix it and it is beautiful. When you see pix you will probably say $6,000!!!! I sure did but I think everything costs more on a Lexus. Should be good for another 10 years.
Got 20 coming to Easter dinner today. Our kids and nieces and nephews and their kids. Tomorrow morning we
are off to Maui for 2 weeks then home to stay for a while.
