Preparing for the Journey

Hello Everyone,

Well, it is time to fire up the "blog" again in preparation for another big trip. I will be leaving the morning of June 16 and should returning home about July 3rd or so. Here is a brief overview of my itinerary. I will try to blog in as often as possible. You may also like to see one of our newest videos from our website at One Child's Village.

Itinerary

Monday, June 16: Leave Edmonton at 7:45 pm.

Tuesday, June 17: Arrive London at 11:30 am. Train to Glasgow. Arrive Glasgow in evening.

Wednesday, June 18: CIVICUS conference, networking

Thursday, June 19: CIVICUS conference, workshop and presentation.

Friday, June 20: Leave Glasgow early int he morning. Take train to London and check in to NorfolkTowers Hotel: (near Paddington Station), 34 Norfolk Place, Paddington, Westminster, London, W2 1QW., Phone: [phone]. Meetings with organisations.

Saturday, June 21: Free time in morning in London (Brick Lane). Meetings in evening.

Sunday, June 22: Leave London early morning (10:20 am) and arrive in Nairobi at 8:50 pm. I am staying at the Parkland Sports Club: PO Box 40116, Nairobi, 00100 Kenya, , Phone: [phone]

Monday, June 23: Early breakfast. Fly to Kisumu. Meet Charles in Kisumu and drive to Bumala, check into hotel in Bumala and visit the Bumala school.

Tuesday, June 24: Bumala school, interviews, inspections.

Wednesday, June 25: Bumala school, interviews, inspections.

Thursday, June 26: Drive to Kisumu. Fly back to Nairobi (afternoon). Return to the Parkland Sports Club.

Friday, June 27: Visit Kawangware school, and opportunity to visit other organisations, and also Sadie (from Mercy Children's Centre)? May also visit Kajadio (Uhuru Highway, Namanga)

Saturday, June 28: Massai Market at Yaya Center. Meet with John Amendi, Moraa and the group.

Sunday, June 29: Meet with John Amendi, Moraa, and the group.

Monday, June 30: Kawangware school, interviews, inspections.

Tuesday, July 1: Kawangware school, interviews, inspections. Evening meal with Charles, Pius, Sadie, Moraa.

Wednesday, July 2: Check out of the Parkland Sports Club by noon. Taxi to airport by 9:00 pm. Leave Nairobi in the late evening at 11:20 pm.

Thursday, July 3: Arrive in London, then onward to home in Edmonton

Items for the Kenya schools

I am bringing a lot of items along with me for the children and school. I don't anticipate having any problems with these as they are all school supplies for the children.


* MAC laptop with full range of accessories (donated by Chris Aanderson and Westworld Computers)
* Anatomy books (donated by Marya McVicar and Sandy Morton)
* 2 long skip ropes for Bumala school (donated by Heather Carnahan)
* 2 microscopes - one for each school (donated by One Childs Village fundraising proceeds)
* Electromagnet science kit (donated by One Childs Village fundraising proceeds)
* 2 light prisms - one for each school (donated by One Childs Village fundraising proceeds)
* 1 pair of small 8X21 Bushnell field glasses - Bumala School (donated by One Childs Village fundraising proceeds)
* 1 package sea monkeys 😊 - Bumala School (donated by One Childs Village fundraising proceeds)
* 4 packs water color paints, 4 boxes crayons, 2 packs stickers, stack of pencils (donated by Education Station)
* 2 games - "Jacks" (donated by Education Station)
* High quality art supplies: pencil crayons, brushes, Gouche tube paint, dry tempera color, art paper. (donated by Todd's neighbour, name to follow)


I also plan to include some clothes in my luggage to wear on the trip, but I haven't yet figured out where they will go. Some "friends" have suggested I just layer the clothing on my body, but I think that will be a bit warm considering that I will be landing at the Equator (Kenya) on the first day of summer!
