In the morning we were picked up at 6:15am. You would think that because we didn’t have to have breakfast, nothing to pack because we were only there one night and we didn’t even have to take our luggage out of the room that we would have plenty of time, but no, it was still a little early for some in our room so in the end we had to race out room to get on our bus. Fortunately we weren’t the last on the bus!
Today we were the first seating for breakfast and lunch - so no scone!
Again we were going through a postcard, incredible country! We went past through Kicking Horse River where we will be rafting. We saw a lot of people rafting but we weren’t sure what colour rafts our company had so we couldn’t pick out ours. It looked like great fun though - and cold!
There were some enormous lakes that seemed to go on forever, there were even a lot with houseboats on them that you need to reserve 2 years ahead they are so popular. One really nice lake was Shuswap Lake - beautiful, flat, huge, lots of
people waterskiing, definitely somewhere we’d like to revisit.
What a day. We went through the Glacier National Park, Yoho National Park (this is where the Rocky Mountains are), the Spiral Tunnels (this is where the train literally zig zags through the mountains, Banff National Park (more Rocky Mountains). The further we went the more turquoise in colour the water got and most mountains were all snow capped or had ice glaciers on top of them which looked awesome. The view today just got better and better the further we went.
Just an awesome amazing day. We stopped in Banff to drop some passengers off. And also one other small town stop on the way where some of the crew got off. At this point we were invaded by singing cowboys who were part of the Calgary Stampede Committee. That was pretty cool, made us even more excited for the Stampede tomorrow.
We got to Calgary around 8:30pm and it was just a matter of getting our bags and catching a cab to our hotel. We’re staying at the Days Inn Calgary South, it’s supposed to be pretty close to Stampede Park for the rodeo and chuckwagon races.
We get to the hotel and the foyer is all done up for Stampede week, with hay bales and cowboy dolls stacked up around the place. We’re told that our room is on the next floor and the lift is out of order so we have to carry our bags up! Damn! We’re so tired we’re happy to leave our bags in the foyer for the duration of our stay! But we suck it up and haul them up, oh well, Tim had been saying he missed the gym!
