Today is our first early morning of the holiday as we have a breakfast booking in the Burj Al Arab for 9.30 this morning. This is the only seven star hotel in the world.
Following yesterday’s failed trial run on the buses, we flagged down a local taxi and enjoy the luxury of our ride through Dubai. We were dropped off at Souk Madinat so that we can walk down the roadway towards the Burj and take in the view. The building is just as spectacular as we were expecting it to be. Security to enter this building is very high. You have to have proof of a booking inside to gain entry.
Our reservation this morning is in their Bab Al Yam restaurant on the ground floor. From the time that we entered the building we were made to feel very special, and they had reserved a window table for us just as we had asked.
We would not normally spend the sort of money that this is costing, but we have always wanted to see the inside of the Burj Al Arab. When George´s Mum passed away last year she left him some money and said
to do something special with it. So we think this is something special and are doing this in her memory.
The food at the buffet was of the very highest quality that you would expect from a hotel in this location and there was lots of it. Plenty of healthy options present. It was hard to get around and taste everything, but we had a good go. The staff were also very helpful. Nothing at all was too much trouble for them.
The Burj Al Arab has recently had a new frontage patio made in Finland and shipped over. Before we left, we had the chance to have an unescorted wander around this new patio. You can see that a lot of care and attention has been put into it and that no expense has been spared.
Having eaten as much as we could, and taken lots of photos, we headed out to the bus stop for the bus to the nearby Mall of the Emirates. This is one of our favourite Dubai haunts.
As it was now about 12 o´clock now, we had planned on a light lunch, but we are both still full from
breakfast, so a quick look around the supermarket and we are on the move again.
Our next stop is the Chillout Lounge in Times Square. We visited here last year and enjoyed the different experience, so could not miss a return visit.
We had planned a metro then a bus ride, but when we got off the metro, we could not find the bus stop. Turns out we were looking on the wrong side of the road as the bus goes away from where we wanted before heading back. Instead we jumped in a taxi for the short ride from the metro station to Times Square. 12 AED (about £2.50) and we are there.
The Chillout Lounge is a room made completely of ice. There are many sculptures and also tables and chairs. They provide thick coats, hats, gloves and boots to keep you warm. They have laid blankets across the anything that is possible to sit on to make it a little more comfortable. They also provide free hot drinks to add to the experience.
About 20 minutes in the Chillout lounge and you have to leave before you start to freeze up. We head
back to the hotel for some travel blog writing and some respite from the intense heat.
Having not eaten since breakfast, this evening we head to Applebee´s which we can see from our hotel, it is just on the other side of the main Sheikh Zayed Road. At this point, this road carries six lanes of traffic each way so it’s very much like being in America. We have an Entertainer voucher for here, but it is a new one, so is not part of the paper book received, but is on an android app that we can access from our tablet. Slight issue getting into their Wi-Fi, but redeeming the voucher was no trouble at all.
We have been to Applebee´s in USA and like their range of food. The food on offer here was just as we remember.
Today has been another great memorable day.
