Well today we continued our quest for the perfect spa. And by jove we may have found it. We went to the Amara Spa at the Park Hyatt on the Creek in Dubai. And it was amazing.
From the moment that you first pull up outside you know that you are in for something pretty special. There is nothing assuming or fancy about the entrance. In fact it is positively understated in its elegance and I think that is part of the charm. The gentleman who was sitting behin the front desk was a picture of courtesy and showed me through to the pool bar area in a very pleasantly efficient manner. And it was there that I got to sit in total relaxation until my spa partners (Jessie, Leanne, Linda and Mary) arrived.
The view from the pool bar over the pool area was really quite lovely. It was just like sitting in a little colonial house with big soft seat and little overhead fans going. I really felt as though we should be dressed in white muslin, with hats and gloves drinking lavendar tea while the boys planned cricket on the lawn.
So the entry to
the spa was just divine. Linda and I were having a massage so we headed off to warm up our bodies and muscles in the steam room. And I have to say that it was without a doubt the hottest steam room that I have ever been into. We nearly died. We only latest about 4 minutes and we were counting ever second of it.
The rooms where we were having our massages were just the most divine things ever. There was an indoor section and a full outdoor courtyward, complete with a rain shower, for every room. The massage started sitting out there so the little thai girl that I had as a therapist could wash my feet off. We then went back into the room proper where she dimmed the lights and then proceeded to give me the most thorough and painful massage of my entire life. I have been having a hard time at work recently and have got a lot of tension built up in my shoulders. So she was trying to get those knots out. I have never felt more pummelled or battered in a massage as I did with what she was trying
to do to loosen my knots. It was practically torture and not relaxing in the slighest.
So after an hour of that I was most glad when I was led back to the relaxation area where I could sit down with a cup of peppermint tea. Following my relaxing drink I went back through to the pool area to meet back up with mary and to have a wee dip in the lovely pool.
And the best thing of all is that nobody badgered us at any time for money or payments in advance and all the staff couldn't have been more helpful at all times.
A truely pleasant place to go and visit (except for the massage!)
