13,000 kms and 22 hours of travelling later and we have arrived in our first destination, Istanbul!! The flight was surprisingly quite painless, we had the two seats together at the back of the plane for both flights and because we travelled during daylight hours, we didn't feel like we needed to get any sleep. So I watched 5 movies and several episodes of a TV show to kill the time inbetween meals.
First impressions of Istanbul are good - the trip from the airport had lots of greenery and gardens along the road. We also saw all the locals celebrating end of Ramadan along the foreshore with little portable BBQ's!
The hotel is nice, and the host very friendly and helpful. The room is cosy but has a nice feel and we have views out the windows to the sea.

Hi Bon and Mike, glad you arrived safely. The view looks lovely - you'll be able to see your ship come into port! That's cool about the outdoor bbqs to celebrate the end of Ramadan. Looking forward to the next update :-)
