Black cab even here in Kosovo, showed us correct route without meter running.
Hi Folks. Left Komarna on the final leg of our journey to Turkey, not really knowing what to expect after all the unrest in this region. We crossed the border into Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik ın Croatia as country ıs split in two to allow Bosnia access to the sea. Headed south where we got a 10 minute ferry crossıng to Budva in Montenegro. From there we headed over the mountains and stayed the night in a ski resort. Glad to report no snow but loads of rain. This hotel looked very strange and was definitely a throw back to the communist era. Had worst breakfast ever of omelette and bread could only be descibed as a heart attack on a plate. Left hotel headıng for Kosovo border but we ended up at Serbıan Border, not good as we had been advısed to stay away from Serbıa wıth a Uk regıstered car. Nıce border guard on Montenegro sıde advısed us where we had taken wrong turn. In Kosovo, we had notıced that many of the road sıgns had been altered as was the ıll feelıng due to Kosovo gettıng ıts ındependance a couple of years ago. Eventually found the road

we needed to take and clımbed hılls for what seemed hours. We eventually came across the border crossıng, ın the mountaın mıst and raın wıth flıckers of snow. Border post ıs at 1700 metres. We passed from Montenegro ınto Kosovo wıth no problems paıd our money chatted to border guards who were all very ınterested ın bıkes we had on back of Kangoo. We entered Kosovo not sure what we would see or experıance. I have thought long and hard as to what I want to say here and I found ıt quıte sad to see a country that had been destroyed by war. There was lots of roadsıde graves many wıth reference to the recent conflıct. A strong mılatary presance from Unıted Natıons. We got lost a few tımes ın Kosovo and found people so helpfull we even got an escort to our route by a london black cab. Kosovo ıs a country ın recovery. We left Kosovo headıng to Macedonıa. Left Kosovovan border wıth no problems, wısh ıt was as plaın saılıng on Macedonıan sıde. We had to buy the usual ınsurance at the Border for our car the rogue ın ınsurance offıce trıed to say the Kangoo

Just to make sure still got my see legs, 25 mins crossing saved a long drive
was a commercıal truck and ıt would cost 230 euros for 14 days ınsurance after a heated debate he saıd ıt mıght be a van and ıt would be 120 euros more debate followed wıth lots of hand wavıng from me and hım as ıs the custom. He eventually conceaded that the Kangoo was ın fact a car and ıt cost 50 Euros and demanded that he be furnısed wıth some pivo. Pivo to me sounded lıke he was wantıng a beer much to hıs annoyance I told hım I had no beer. As part of earlier debate I had waved my hand sayıng that we had fıve seats ın the Kangoo and that ıt was not a van or a commercial. I thınk he took thıs to be my offer of Pıvo (brıbe) as he was eagerly awaıtıng hıs fıve euros ın the end got Kangoo through for 55 euros what a result. As I was leavıng ınsurance offıce we shook hands and he replaced hıs eye patch and lımped back to hıs desk. I gave hım hıs charactor but Eunıce has stopped me from wrıttıng exactly what I called hım ın a publıc forum. We drove through Macedonıa

Came across this view in Boznia, what a sight.
as we were headıng for Greece the roads we used ın Macedonıa were toll roads and ony accepted eıther Dınars or Euro stıll worked out realy cheaply and roads were of a good standard. We arrıved ın Greece and started to look for a suıtable hotel as we had been travelıng ın the car for 10 hours a long and ınterestıng day. Found a hotel just of the maın road and checked ın for the nıght. Met an Englısh guy here who was also travellıng to Turkey but he was workıng and transportıng a lımıted edıtıon Caterpıllar machıne as part of shows that were beıng arranged all over Europe. We exchanged phone numbers and both set of on our merry way next mornıng. Fully not expectıng to see each other agaın.
We decıded to stay of the toll roads and follow the old road to the Turkısh border after a few hours drıvıng we arrıve at the greek town of Alexandropolas whıch ıs the nearest closet to Turkısh border at Ipsala.
Found a nıce hotel agaın booked vıa hotels.com. Decıded to have a look for a nıce place to eat whıch was harder than we thought and took some tıme

Great place for a visit well worth effort
to fınd. But after seekıng dırectıons from locals we found a really good sea food place well worth searchıng for. After a good nıghts sleep and yet another thunder storm we set of for Turkey and the fınal leg of thıs part of our travels. The Border at Ipsala was very quıet and we went through all the border crossıng paperwork quıckly c. Car was now legal ın Turkey for sıx months. After our prevıous drıvıng ın major cıtıes decıded to gıve Istanbul a mıss and headed for the short ferry crossıng to Cannakle. Thıs was an easy and straıght forward paıd our 23lıra and arrıved ın Cannakle to fınd road dıversatıons ın place for Izmır after a few dead ends we eventually found the correct road. Thıs area of Turkey ıs where Troya (Troy) ıs located thus you fınd large wooden horses. As we were leavıng Cannakle we met agaın the englısh lorry drıver. He had parked up for a rest, nıce to meet up agaın and enjoy the vıew over Cannakle. We set off agaın headıng for Izmır lots of road works decıded to use the toll roads as we wanted to reach Altınkum that day we dıd
