Kaş - Day 1 (proper) Well, finally the day has come - we get to check into the villa which our whole trip has been worked around - it did not disappoint! A very nice place to just sit back and relax...We have done some serious walking around our previous destinations and this was to be a bit of 'nothing' for once. We have noticed we are able to scale and even climb up some pretty steep ascents, being stairs or otherwise without 'too' much hassle now - regardless, the gut remains (I blame the beer and the food but we are on holidays!) but the legs are certainly 'better' off for the adventure.
We did a bit of shopping to stock up before we dropped off 'The Beast' as this would be our last opportunity to utilise it's deceivingly powerful abilities and powers to travel at speeds far outperforming any mere mortal!
It's a bit odd as some items here are surprisingly cheap whilst others are more expensive than home - supply and demand and also what they can actually 'produce' here without the need to import. The tomatoes are exceptional but lamb is very expensive (eat in or
out). We basically stocked up on a weeks worth of fruit and vegies for about A$11 but a small packet of diced lamb was A$7 alone!
Indeed, our beautiful Villa Deniz, right on the ocean front with a 'horizon/infinity' pool and a view so good from the bedroom (and all other rooms for that fact!!) that you just can't bring yourself to close the curtains, not that you need to as it is very private here. Even through all of this perfection we have several tips for the owner, one being solar heating on the pool, it could be 'just' a little warmer never the less this is certainly the life... In a lot of salads and sandwiches here you will find 'Dill', what a find I say, I am adding it to everything now!
The town of Kaş (pronounced 'Cash') is a short 5/10 minute bus ride away and a lovely little place to spend some time, sitting in the main square watching the kids play soccer the local cats try and get food from wherever possible and the parade of people, OR strolling around the cobbled lane ways having a look at the shops. Then of course there are also the dogs, a mixture of owned and strays though the interesting thing is that even the strays (cats too) are looked after by the locals and they by and large are all pretty healthy. Brett bought us some 'schmackos' so I can feed the dogs though these doggy treats are also proving to be a hit with the cats. Both cats and dogs go Whacko over Schmackos!
As mentioned the Beast has done well and delivered some groceries to our house. What an experience to figure out what to buy in a different language! We did alright with exception of the local drinking yogurt which I mistook for milk... I love the dogs personally, they are an entity unto themselves. They sleep anywhere and everywhere (and that seems to be their main purpose in life! We have found them in the middle of the square (on their back, legs astray) whilst kids ride past them, soccer balls whizzing past their ears, but they stay there - sleeping/resting, generally uncaring as to what is going on.
Kaş Day 2/3 soon - Kaş iyi geceler
