Our first stop 6 hrs down the Aegean Coast was Canakkale. Our bus there was first rate! You even have a bus attendant who serves you coffee and snacks! Our priority here was to go out and see the site of Troy. Grabbed a dolmus (taxitruck), to the site. Difficult to see but was well explained. The diffiuclty comes from the fact that there are about 10 layers of Troy, all built in different periods, one on top of the other. So you will be looking at ruins and trying to figure out which layers of Troy you are looking at. Very hard to excavate obviously, as you have to remove Troy X to get to Troy I - X. The walls of Troy VI seemed largest and most intact. Other features were a stone ramp entering Troy II (2600 - 2300 BC) and a Roman Odeon.
