Had quite a day today its 430 and we've just got back to the motel we headed off this morning about 8am and went to mt Scopus to see Jerusalem from the north the direction from which it was taken in 67 from ammunition hill before heading down to Jericho Jesus had walked up the roman road from Jericho about a 9 hr walk before he entered Jerusalem from Bethany

we drove down about 1/2hr in an airconditioned car, we went straight tothe ruins of the old city and walked around on it the excavations are not that revealing seems like not much has been done for a long time but we did see that the structure was mostly clay and mud bricks and no stone explaining why the israelites were able to walk over the walls once they had collapsed rather than having to climb over large rocks as used in jerusalem though we know that this city is not the original one as it was rebuilt 1Ki 16:34 In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according

to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.

we found the spring which feeds jericho with water crystal clear water flowing down an open chanel so I washed my feet and cooled off. thanks to the young man who sold us pomegranate juice and in return showed us how to see the spring for free.

we jumped back in the car and headed to the sycamore tree for a photo op and an old man showed us the branch he thought zacheus would have sat on before being asked to have Jesus and his disciples over for a meal

this made us hungry so we found a fallafle place the girls had fallafles but we realised that we could get yiros so the boys had yiros it was real good.

then Steve said i thing herods palace is up here and proceded up a narrow dirt road with smelly rubish burning along the side donna-may was not confident but steve pressed on when we got to the other end lo a sign Herods palace back the way we had come so we turned around and halfway back Steve darted

up an even narrower road that looked like someones drive

why did we doubt it was Herods drive and led directly to his front door the excavations here were better than Jericho and none at the gate to pay so we went in and had a look

from here steve said there is the old roman road and the old Jericho gate so we drove up a steep windy path on the edge of a cliff till we came to another van of tourists parked blocking the way so we all thought we will have to turn back but no ! Steve pressed on squeezing past the van with the wheels on the edge of the cliff we scraped passed and went further up, finally we stopped where we could turn around and we were rewarded with an amazing view of Jericho and herods palace and a conduit along the side of the cliff made to take water to the palace it was then we realised the palace was much bigger than we thought and on both sides of the wadi

it is this road that jesus would have walked with his disciples the main rd to

Jerusalem from Jericho and if you want you can still walk it today.

from here we went down to the traditional baptism site on the Jordan there were about 6 buses of people there to get baptised we had a look and bought some drinks and headed to the dead sea but couldnt get to the edge without payng so we went back towards Jerusalem

on the way up the new road steve saw a sign to a lookout so we went there not really knowing what we would see but again it was amazing from here you can see Jericho to the right as well as the mount of olives to the left

back in the car and to Jerusalem and our hotel the imperial
