The Usual Suspects
Whenever I go out this is usually what it looks like So i see its been 23 days since my last blog. I wish i could say that i've been out experiencing new things and thus to busy to write. Alas the opposite has been true. Since my last blog the days have been vanishing in mundane daily habits with only a few hiccups to break the monotony. This has not been completely unhelpful though as i have been able to focus on my rehab and physical shape. Sorry mom i still haven't gained any weight but my knee is doing well and the rest of my body feels as good as it has in a long time. The hiccups i speak of were two events; one was a concert that featured a Queen tribute "band" and the other was the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix. Ill start with the Queen tribute "band"
It all started about two or three weeks ago when Diego and i were at one of the few pubs in the country. We were just hanging out and i noticed a poster with a picture of, what i thought was Freddy Mercury. Upon closer inspection i realized that it was an advertisement for a Queen tribute band that
QueenB Crowd
For the first time the bar was packed. Proof that it dosent take much to bring the crowds would be performing in only a few short weeks. needless to say that with the lack of entertainment around here i got really really excited! The mere thought of seeing a live rockin performance of "Fat Bottom Girls" or "Mr. Fahrenheit" put me to sleep every night with a smile on my face. Diego and i made some sort of comment or joke to each other everyday and downloaded The Best of Queen album just to stay fired up. The night of the performance we got out of practice as soon as we could and hurried home to clean up and eat.
We got there early, had a few drinks and realized that there was a pretty good sized crowd. This only added to our excitement as you might imagine. Suddenly the lights dimmed and the announcer boomed over the PA system. "Ladies and Gentalmen, please welcome QueenB, a tribute to the great rock band Queen!!!!!!" You can imagine our surprise when one man stepped on stage with a glued on mustache and fake veneers the size of mentos sticking out from under his upper lip. The performance that followed can only be described as a one man, moderately good
At the Gates
The place was huge and the gate to get in was surprisingly hard to find. at karaoke, semi strip tease which would have made the great Mr. Mercury turn in his crave. The night was still salvaged with jokes like "what did we expect", and "only in Bahrain" but if anyone is questioning why its hard to get fired up on anything other then coming home i think you might now understand.
Fast forward to the F1 Grand Prix and as you might imagine my excitement was no where near a boil. I was looking forward to going and experiencing it but my hopes were not high as to the grandness everyone said it would be. On the day of the race we had a game scheduled but the crown price canceled all other sporting events in honor of the race. Having a free day Diego, Leslie and I were able to enjoy the race to its fullest. That basically meant nothing. The pre-race festivities consisted of waiting in line to get a burger and waliking around in amazement at the prices of the team gear. I needed a hat but could only find ones costing in the neighborhood of $53.00. Right at the point of deciding the price was worth avoiding skin cancer
Arrival
It was sunny out so i had to buy a hat. I had no idea i looked like such a goof until i saw the pictures afterwards. It might not have had anything to do with the hat, i'm not sure. i found one for $12. Oh yeah, no haggling over price(lesson learned the hard way) The race was fun but nothing too special. The cars go insanely fast and are ridiculously loud(someone told me that one cars engine at full throttle is louder than a jet engine). After about 25 laps my eyes started hurting and i thought i was going to throw up from the sound (even with ear plugs). I would sum it up like this; good photo opportunities, a head ache, a little motion sickness, and something worth doing once.
We have also started playing alot of games now as well. we have at least one every week for the next month and a half and then im not sure whats going to happen. Im definitely ready to come home and looking forward to see everyone. thats all for now.
