Day 2 - The drive to Portsmouth continues
We made another stop at about 2.30am. We agreed that a power nap would help. We set the alarm for4am. Ella slept, I certainly dozed and relaxed. At 4am, we were up and out. I noticed that it was a 2 hour parking eye! The last thing we need is a parking ticket!
I drove for a further 2.5 hours before arriving at Portsmouth International Port.
It was a great feeling to know that we had completed the first leg of our road trip, and arrived safely. We are really happy with the bans performance so far. Yes, it is a slow chugg, but it is also the nature of the beast!
We queued for about an hour and a half to get on the ferry. It is called, 'Baie de Seine'. It's far more pleasant than we had expected! When we were sat in the queue, Ella noticed where our room was situated, and the size of it compared to all the other cabins!
We were not disappointed. We are on the top, 10th floor. It has a huge window, a lovely shower room, TV, coffee and
tea bar with a kettle, chairs and a table, full size wardrobe, and lots of room. It is situated in the reading room, which is where the wifi is, a great result all round. Although I must confess, we booked this room as it was the only type available. We did complain at the price, but after yesterday, and last night, it is worth every penny!
After getting settled in, we had a look round the boat. taking in a coffee and pain au chocolat breakfast on our way.
The weather is perfect, and the sea is really calm. We went back to our room; we are both tired, so we went bed.
We slept for about 3 hours, waking up at about 1.30. We went for a bit of fresh air on the deck, it is gorgeous outside, blowing, but not too much, sunny, just enough so you feel it's presence, a rolling sea, you can feel it, but not enough to make you ill!
We decided we would benefit from a wholesome meal. So we went off to the restaurant for a hearty lunch, only to find that we have missed it by 15
minutes!
So we went into the cafe instead. We both opted for different flavours if a soup and a sandwich. We both were really happy with our choices, and with a full stomachs we go outside for more fresh air. Time is passing, it's now 3.30pm. We went back to our room for a read and a rest! We are both fighting the urge to go back to bed. We are planning an early shower, followed by an early night in bed. All good preparation for the potential 12 hour drive across Spain tomorrow.
We chilled in our room, Ella was reading, I was blogging, but the tiredness simply got the better of me! I decided to have an hour long nap. 3 hours later I woke up! Well I must have needed it!
We popped in and out of our room periodically, for a bit of fresh air, we both showered, got into our pjs, then settled in for a much needed early night. I watched a bit of TV on my iPad, Ella continued reading before lights out.
