here we are by the river It’s been 2 days since I’ve written. Yesterday we were in Passau, it is a small town in Germany near the Austrian border. We got there early and did a city tour. Our guide was great – funny, personable, informative… The thing that amazed me the most was the flood level that was drawn against the wall. The one in 2013 was the second worst (the worst was in 15 something)… after the tour we took a city busy up the hill by the river to the castle. What a site, you could see the whole city. We had a lovely lunch. Well, we waited too long and missed our boat.. No, we didn’t panic. Why? It was an alternate itinerary. You could stay in town longer and take a bus and pick up the ship at a quick stop down the river… we made it back to the ship with no problem.
All the days (so far) have been great. I’m so so glad though that we got bumped in Detroit, why, well, the $1k first but I found Desigual and bought some summer shirts. You see before we left we all looked at the weather. It was supposed
to be high 50’s to mid-60s in the day with some rain. What have we had 75-84 without any rain until tonight? I have worn everything I bought. Yes, the weather tomorrow is supposed to be wet and cooler but I am out of short sleeve clothes so I think I’ll survive.
Today we were in Regensburg. We did another city tour but this tour…. OMG, the guide was monotone, could not keep on subject, kept repeating himself and generally was BOORING. So about 20 minutes in, susan and I peeled off and went on our own. We explored the whole city and came across all kinds of buildings. We started making up facts about each place we saw and stating them as facts. “this building was built in 1215 but survived the war because the bomb fell on the building over there”…… “this is part of the Roman wall”…. “this is where you would pay your custom duty when coming into the city”. I learned we were good with alternate facts.
So we continued thru the city and our own tour. We even found a nice garden where we relaxed a bit. So we had the choice

Passau flood levels of going to an Octoberfest (in May) or back to the ship. My knees, well …. We decided we wanted a bit of down time. Oh that was such a good decision. We got back on the ship just before it pulled out (yes, you had the option to again miss the boat today). We had a nice lunch on the lower deck. The upper deck was closed down and everything was broken down to ground level. You see, we had several bridges to go under where – I still can’t believe we made it…
We met new friends from Minnesota and chat’d with them for hours as we watched the scenery go by and the fun going under the bridges…
Dinner was a nice Bavarian flavor with music and food and we talked with others that we had met during the cruise.
It’s been another great 2 days.
