Anne Smith's family story is one to be remembered off. Her whole family was stripped away from their dignity. Unwilling to help, they saw the agony of an aunt who was raped and brutally punished by taking her eyes out. Anne was just 8 years old when she had to see all the arbitrary injustices done to her own race: the Armenians. Her concept of religion did not please the ferocious Islamic Turks. It was a brutal genocide and like Anne said, "it's sad to hear the denial of it by the Turks." Many of her family members were sold to other non-Armenian families not because they were cowards but they did not want to die. Anne's father and brother were enrolled into the Turkish navy and shortly after the war, they had the fortune to locate many of their family members. Although Anne's story does not sound horrifying, it is sad to see the agony of their own people and a struggle they had to triumph in order to reach peace.
