VW Campervan around Europe

We are two Kiwi's planning a 6 months trip starting around May 2012 from France clockwise taking in some Eastern block countries, then to Turkey along the Med to Spain including Portugel and finally back to France.
A VW campervan hire company named Origin Campervans has sent a hireage quote which seems competitive.

Question 1: Has anyone had dealings with this company which are based in France?

Question 2: Would it pay us to join a AA travel organisation as we have here in New Zealand?

Question 3 : Any suggestions??
