Terrys clothes
Most of the clothes I will be taking This part is about our preparations for the
Big Trip. I have put together my clothes and other bits eg toiletries, travel towel, cables. Most of the visas are sorted in terms of organisation of the ones that need to be done before we go and knowing which ones we can do as we reach each country. There has been a lot of debate about which luggage to take. What types of case/backpack will be manageable Frances has recently bought a really good case with lots of pockets and dividers. see photo.
It's my turn to write a bit now as Terry has set it all up and is waiting for me to add some pearls of wisdom. We've done a bit more shopping in the last couple of days and have bought another bag like the red one I got last week only in black. We've also bought two new rucksacks to use as hand luggage and carry the netbook, documentation etc as well as a bit more space in addition to the bags. We seem to be constantly thinking of extra things we might need but I think half the things will be discarded again when we actually
The new suitcase
There are so many pockets! pack. It is very hard to visualise what we really do need. Those of you who know me well will also be incredulous to believe I could possibly make do for 6 months with one bag of clothes! Will I come back a changed woman?
It is just over 3 weeks now until D day and we seem to be in limbo at the moment. Most of our thoughts and actions centre around the trip and we just seem to be hanging around waiting to go. On the other hand there are lots of things to do that can't be done until the last few days and so I'm sure we will end up with a rush to get everything sorted. I am also paranoid that something will happen to stop us going - illness, strikes, world domination by aliens etc and that this fantastic adventure, so long in the planning, will come to nothing.
On a happier note we're off to Devon next week with all the family for an early Christmas. A week in a farmhouse with lots of good food and drink will be great and a chance to spend time with our lovely family before we selfishly desert them and spend their inheritance on riotous living around the world!
One week to go and lots to do. Having lounged around for a year planning this we still have a flurry of activity and things not done during the last few days. Maria held a wonderful send off party for all the family to celebrate our departure and my sixtieth birthday. We also met up with various friends for lunches etc. As we said goodbye it finally hit us that we were going away for six months and how much we would miss everyone. Monday to Thursday was spent cleaning the house (it's never been so clean!) and eating up strange combinations of food to empty the fridge and the freezer until departure day - Friday 13th finally arrived......

Well done!
I can't believe that you will be able to last 6 months with so little luggage! Well done, it's a good start to the blog. I had a little trouble finding you, it's not obvious from the home page where to search and also I couldn't find you under Terry, only Redcon. I look forward to the next installment!
