the last days before the trip
Our itinerary: Els & Peter: Mongolia (Sept), China (Oct), Japan (Nov), Philippines (Nov/Dec), Australia (dec/jan), NZ (jan/feb), cook islands (feb); Peter: Mexico (march/april) & maybe parts of S-America if money is left (april-?); Els Canada (march).
The Facts: 8 countries, approx. 20 flights, from Asia to Central America, the trip is planned, tickets booked, both now unemployed, and I am excited to go. Els is already in Mongolia, she did voluntary work there for 2 weeks with kids, now heading to Gobi desert. 15 september, that's my departure date: amsterdam-london-bejing-Ulan Bator.
saying good bye to friends first to wacken festival in germany to see marcus my dear old friend from berlin and his crew, then I went to vienna to see my family and good old friends once more before the trip, been at one of my best friend's wedding, ...and what better place as a last stop before the trip than a western town? one of my very good old friend's and successful business man bought a whole western town outside of vienna some time ago, but not using it for commercial purposes at the moment, so his brother lives there and enjoys
celebrating our trip
actually we don't know the people on the picture but they somehow wanted to be part of it filling up the empty space around us every boy's dream playing cowboy in his own western town, what to do there?....canoeing in his own lake, swimming, playing paint gun, throwing knives, playing guitar and watching the sunset, or just jamming with a band in front of nobody in a huge saloon that would easily cater for hundreds of people, everythings possible in no name city.
last preparations: arranging insurance, buying equipment for the trip, scanning 5 different lonely planets, internet research, still waiting for my passport with the visas for china & mongolia,
wondering how to pack for 8 months, all the electronic equipment each with a different charger to carry, haven't found a smart all-in-one solution yet, also want to bring my guitar, cause 8 months without it would be quite hard for me, first countries could get a bit chilly at night, but majority of trip will be warm, so need to carry wide range of clothes, I guess I need to buy a bigger pack, still have a couple of days to figure that out....
expect the unexpected I am more then ready to leave by now, feels also a bit strange to still be here, while Els is already there in a completely
different vibe..... so what will the future bring? will we get the swine flue, and if so when and where? (hopefully not before the trip as I need to enter China and that could be difficult with a hig body temperture), will the money last long enough, will our stuff get stolen or do we simply lose some of it?, will my electronic equipment survive the trip?, will i finally learn how to surf or get stung by a sting ray again? will I get injured again and if so how bad?, will I finally manage to learn spanish to write the last updates in spanish? how many kilos will I lose (on my last 4 months trip I lost approx 8kg)?, will Els break up with me on our trip (she broke up with her ex-boy friend while travelling together for 4 months)? how many friends can I persuade to join parts of our trips (anyone interested let me know, so I can send you my exact travel details)?, ....answers to all that & much more ...in the coming months here on my travel blog, will try to do country updates with pix, so you get an idea of
how we are doing. for the time being, I uploaded already infos from all previous trips worth mentioning. for the ones who prefer to watch videos instead of reading, you can also check out some clips from previous trips at: http://www.youtube.com/misterpeterstravels.
