We docked nice and early in Kobnhavn (Copenhagen) and made our way to a leisurely breakfast before heading out. We knew from the moment that we docked that this was going to be a special day. The architecture, the scenary, it was all beautiful. The only downer was that it was bloody cold!!! A hailstorm on the way to the city really did for barbara but the rest of us thought it was funny. You will have to excuse any grammar or spelling errors in this Chapter, but i am typing this after watching the champions league semi final and am on cloud nine and a bit pissed! COME ON THE REDS!!!! Unbelivable.
We decided to walk to the city from the ship....it was supposed to be about a mile but with Dave in charge of the map it ended up being around five. Still, getting lost meant that we saw all the sights...eventually. The little Mermaid was....little.... but yes, cute ish. The walk to the city intself was really interesting aside from the freezing cold wind and hail. We passed a statue of Winston Churchill at one point and this made for the moment of the day. Barbara
stood next to him for a photo and stood there giving me the two fingers.... i said "er....what are you doing???" to which she said "V for victory! is this the right way round?" no...no it wasnt. she was just stood there, in a crowded park, sticking up the two fingers to everyone!! This woman is hilarious....would you not check what is the right way before sticking up those fingers!?
Feet aching a little, we continued our walk and discovered the Christiansborg palace and a cool place which looked a bit military...there were two gorgeous horses outside that were stock still and very well behaved. The whole feel reminded me a little of buckingham palace.
Of course, Denmark have their own royal family and this was portrayed in the statues and souvenirs that we passed. Dave managed to find a Denmark flag and Barb a thimble and snowglobe thing. I saw a cool pandora charm representing hanz christian anderson but it was too pricey...a bird cage which opened to reveal a tiny bird inside.
The Copenhagen streets were, one minute, soaked with rain and the next, bathed in sunshine....cobbled streets and shops which were
in keeping with the old architecture. Nothing looked crass and out of place even though it was clearly a cosmopolitan and vibrant city. I especially loved the brightly coloured buildings along the marina.
we stopped a couple of times for coffee and dave had his detox tea too! Aside from my early allergic reaction, everyone did really well and we ended up walking around ten miles in total. Barb hardly complained at all!!
we stopped for bubble waffles at one little cafe and these were delicious. They were careful to make mine separately and i had to stick to sobet flavours and not ice cream but, man, those were a warm and sweet treat on a cold day. Waffle shops seemed to be a thing in Copenhagen and we did really enjoy ours.
Once we had exausted enjoying the gorgeous Danish scenery and shops we made the long walk back to the ship. The sun came out again and it was really pleasant with the wind on our backs. Pizza back on board and then crooners before our evening meal.
having decided liverpool stood NO chance of scoring 3 against Barcelona with
no reply, we decided to stay at crooners for the evening.... i kept an eye on the score. 1-0.... at crooners.... 2-0 at crooners... 3-0.... stuff it we ran up to the room in time to see the 4th goal go in and spent another 15 minutes with hands and paws over eyes. (little little and pew couldnt watch either) . i had both mum and liane on text to me insisting i needed to go watch the game and, omg, did we cheer. Dave and i then ran back down to crooners, this time in our liverpool shirts, and those still there were genuinely happy and excited for us. lots of hugs and high fives and a sense of complete disbelief.
what a day....what a night... we will never forget this visit to copenhagen.
