the tower bridge
mom, dad, and nat- this is what that puzzle is suppose to look like :-) Jan. 20
Sunny day in London, picture perfect blue sky, sunny day in London smell that air…….. for those of you who haven’t guessed I went to London today and those are the words to a show tune. (what can I say…..) anyway, today was the day trip with the school. We took a bus into London and then the bus drove us around for about an hour with a tour guide to point stuff out. It was really fun……sadly it was pretty dreary on the bus ( yeah I know the song lied) so we couldn’t see so well out the windows but it was still so cool. We drove past parliament, Harrods, across the tower bridge; saw MI-6 (yes as in James Bond), Hyde park, Trafalgar square, and I can’t even remember what else. Then the bus dropped us off outside the Tower of London and we had the afternoon to see the Tower and then walk around were ever we wanted before we had to be back at the bus. So Whitney, Monica, Paul, Brian, and I spent about 3 hours in the tower. We took a tour and then just looked around for ourselves. It was
the white tower
this is the middle building in the tower of london complex so cool. The main building was built just after the Norman invasion and then the whole thing was added on to for a while. I don’t really remember all the dates. The neatest part of the whole place was the fact that the crown jewels were on display in one of the buildings………the real live crown jewels! It was unbelievable. Sadly I wasn’t allowed to take pictures of them --- I did however take the time to ride the moving walk way past them three times then stare almost endlessly at the ones in the cases with out the walkways. I saw the biggest, purest diamond in the world……seriously- I’m not exaggerating. It’s called the star of Africa…..BEAUTIFUL. One of the crowns was in a square case that you could walk all the way around so we took turns ducking down and lining our heads up with the reflection of the Imperial Crown of India --- it looked good on me :-D After that we went and walked around some of the other buildings. We saw the jail and the armory and all that. We walked around all the floors of the main building called the White Tower (yeah it’s
back in the map
and yes i am really standing on a map of london... a little Lord of the Rings- ish, I know). I got a good work out doing it too --- there are so many stairs in that place. Actually, in general, all the neat old buildings have a trillion stairs in them. I’ve decided that’s why wars took so long in Europe……… I know I’d be fairly slow about my business if I had to run up and down all those steps. Anyway, the weather actually cleared up very nicely for a little while so we got some really nice pictures of the Tower. After a few hours we realized that we were all pretty hungry so we decided to start our walk back to the bus stations b/c we only had about 2 hours we just thought we would walk and look. Since we’ve gotten to England the whole group of us has made an attempt to not eat anywhere that we have in the states but we broke down this time. We were so hungry and London is a fairly expensive place so we just gave up and ate at Subway. A mistake I will not soon repeat b/c apparently Subway isn’t quite so good over here……and they have
trafalgar square
this was even prettier in person no concept of ranch dressing. Well after we ate I realized that there was one crucial thing I had come close to forgetting to do, since the sun was on its way down. It was time for me to get back in the map. So I laid the map on the ground, stood in it and got Monica to take my picture. Unless you happen to be a Friends fan don’t even bother trying to make sense of what I just said. The whole thing was done solely for my darling Natalie --- one of the few who will truly appreciate my actions. on the way back to the station we stopped and took pictures outside of St. Paul’s Cathedral and at the fountain in Trafalgar Square which is absolutely beautiful at night. When we were back on the bus we drove back across the river which is amazing at night. The whole thing is lit up. On the way back to uni we made friends with a guy named Nehemiah who decided that he would come watch that week’s episode of Grey’s anatomy. Now in theory that sounded like a good plan only none of us realized that this episode was one of the saddest ones that the show has had in a good long while. So poor Nehemiah got stuck in a room with me, Monica, and Whitney crying our eyes out………fortunately Paul was there, which I think made things better. Hopefully we didn’t scare him away and he still wants to be our friend…….
What I miss: ranch dressing
What I love: the fact that I am in a country that has crown jewels….i mean really.
