I had planned a trip to Glasgow this week to share Jack's birthday celebrations, but the floods had badly damaged a bridge en route, and there are no trains after Carlisle at least till February. Having looked at alternative ways of getting there, all very lengthy and some quite difficult, I decided I'd stay at home.
So we came up with a second best plan, and Alex and I had a good walk along the canal near Llangollen on Monday, walking right up to where the canal starts as it takes water from the River Dee. We found lots of caches whilst we were there too! Then, almost as I decided not to head north, we had a phone call from Cathy (relative from NZ) to ask whether she and Anita could pop up for a visit as they were in the UK. So they stayed the night and a jolly, if chilly, time was had by all. We had tea at Dad's house, and spent the evening there. And this morning visited the famous aqueduct at Froncysyllte.
