30 days to go .................The weather hasnt improved any but plans are picking up on holidays. It's just a month and the final countdown. The shakedown list printed off this morning and when the weather gets better and Kathrein is sorted we can start to pull things out of the van to check them over and put them back. There are so many things to do and it is getting rather exciting.

The vans need washing but until the weather clears it seems pointless even trying. Since writing those few words the time has moved on and it is now 26 days to go. The snow has started to melt leaving behind that grey mucky stuff at the side of the road. In places it is still piled high and some of the bungalows at the top of the pass were still snowed in up to yesterday. The sun though has started to shine and although a touch chilly it is looking wet in places showing the slow thaw is coming in.

Tomorrow the clocks change and it is officially British Summer Time. Now that will probably bring the snow back as it always brings in a change of

weather. And not always for the best. Not sure what summer is either as we don't seem to have had any of that for years.

Today we took the car out and tried the data logger. Well it seems to work although as always it takes ages to read the instructions, to work out how to use it and to decipher its complicated innards. Well it worked and we even managed to download it onto the computer so that we could view our short journey on Google Earth. Apparently our highest speed was 77 mph and we descended 2035 feet from our home to Wrexham. It showed us how many hills we had travelled over and how steep the gradients were. Should come in handy somewhere. The plan is to set it up and track us across Europe.

We nipped into Currys to buy a small electric oil heater to use in Suzy on cold nights. The plan for that is to run it overnight to keep the cold off . We should be able to use it in this country but not so sure on the foreign campsites where the power supply is poor to say the

least. We will have to try it on with the motorhome heater and see what happens. But at least in the cold here it should be a real asset keeping us snug and cosy in Suzy. We also purchased a tow rope - another one of those just in case purchases . Hopefully we wont need it but you never know. £24.99 for the heater and around £20 for the tow rope.

From Halfords the local car accessory shop we purchased some sticky backed velcro pads to stick the data logger to the screen. Funny how when you open them someone has taken four of them out. They obviously wanted four but didnt want to buy the whole packet. How tight is that?

The rest of the plan for the day was to go to Erddig a lovely stately home near to Wrexham however when we got there we were turned back. The car park was heaving and cars were struggling with parking in the snow and slush. We could have gone to the other entrance but in the end decided not to bother and leave it for another day. Sion has been in deep conversation with his

best friend Woolly about Roman latrines and he thought that perhaps by inspecting the toilets in Erddig he might gain some useful information to share with Woolly on how the other half lived and used their toilets. Alas he is now sulking as he didnt get to see them.

Kathrein is booked in for her repair work to be done in Telford the week after next. Will be pleased to hopefully get her sorted. There is nothing worse than a satelitte dish that only works when it feels like it. We hope we get the chance to visit Blists Hill while there and to come back with a fully functioning Kathrein. Our european phone sim thing the name of which I cannot remember is still not up and running. We were promised on Tuesday when it arrived that we would receive our password within 48 hours. Where have I heard that before ? Of course with Easter here now we will probably hear nothing before Tuesday.

Next week must top up the Caxton Card with euros and send off for our Slovenian vignette. And we have visits due to the nurse to talk about whether or not we

need Tick Borne Encaphalitis injections. It tells us we might be better having them if we are going into Slovenia and Croatia but at £60 a time each and two injections needed before our holiday we need to make sure we need them. The joys of travelling are many. Sion wants to know if he needs an injection.

The photographs are a record on our May holiday in Suzy by campsite and aire.
