Highland Folk MuseumEarly Monday morning I woke up to get ready for my 5 day tour of the Highlands and Isle of Skye tour with MacBackpackers. The week went by in a blur and I didn’t have any time to write, so I will combine my week into one entry. That’s not to say that it was a boring week; in fact, it was the complete opposite. It was one of the best weeks of my life and I met so many wonderfully awesome people. On Monday morning we left Castle Rock Hostel around 9 with our tour guide Neil and 25 of us. Our first night was spent in Inverness. On our way there, we made a lot of stops at so many places. Here are a few from the week: Dunkelo, killicrankie, highland folk museum, Culloden, clava cairns, loch ness, portee, anstor, leaty falls, and kilt rock. We would meet at the bus at 5 to 9 every morning and would get back to the hostel around 6/7 at night. In our free time, we went out to eat, explore the city, and play games/talk. I got to hang out with so many people from all over the world. I met
Loch Nesstwo girls from Florida, Chelsea and Julie. One of them, Julie is from Pensacola as well and her friend Jen from Mobile. I met Ina and Janash from Germany. I met the Chapman siblings from Australia, Emily, Jonathan, and Michael. The first day Neil asked if Jonathan and Michael were brothers, and they said yes and that Emily was there sister. Then Neil asked if I was their cousin and I said no. So that began the joke of me being there cousin. The first night at dinner we were getting to know each other, so Jonathan asked some weird random questions. He asked like if you were stranded on an island who would you take with you, who would you eat first, and then he asked me if I would marry him based on what I knew about him. I replied saying I would have to decide at the end of the week. Neil told us that as a bus driver in Scotland, he is able to marry people. So it turned into a huge joke about us getting married. We took engagement pictures, he sung a song asking me to marry him, I said yes, and made flower
Loch Nessrings. We spent the second and third night on the Isle of Skye and the fourth night in Oban. It ended up being the hottest day of the year while we were there. I came prepared for rainy, cloudy, cold weather but got sunshine and warmth. Beware of the midges. They are little flies that like to eat you. I highly recommend the MacBackpackers tour. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and one of the best weeks of my life. At the end of Friday we all prepared to say goodbye, but we ended up staying at the same hostel. We got to spend one last night together playing games and having a few drinks in the hostel. It was wonderful, magical, memorable. I loved being an honorary Chapman, trying to speak Aussie, being on the same level with the hubs, and having new pen palls. I hope one day, we will meet again.
