BANGKOK
traffic with skytrain above well i am back, now i have recovered, and no longer sad about being back in the uk without ekk, i feel like writing about the trip!
arrived in bangkok at the new airport at lunchtime. very hot and humid.
taxi to hotel was uneventful, slept for a while in preparation for meeting my thai partner Ekk in SILOM soi 4. we spent 3 crazy nights in bangkok, drinking too much, partying too much, shopping too much, spending too much, and not enough sleep! new gay nightclub "G.O.D." in silom soi 2/1 is open until past 5am every night.......top music too....
we then took bus south for 4 hours to to stay at hua hin, first time here, nice resort town but a bit staid for my liking. took overnight train south to surat thani, then a bus to phang nga. took tour of the bay then got another bus to phuket town, from there took taxi to patong beach. spent 5 nights here for phuket gay pride, had a fantastic time!
have to mention the hotel we stayed in, the rendezvous hotel. advertised as a small gay friendly hotel in the gay area and at 800baht a
bangkok mbk centre
shopping heaven.... night. quite cheap, however the bad points were numerous, rude french management complained to us about a soiled hand towel the 1st morning, apparently it was found on the bathroom floor, so what?!!
then the 2nd night the hotel water supply failed, and was off for 24 hours, then when it returned the water was cold only for another 24 hours. there was no apology from the french management, when i queried this the reply was "this is thailand, what do you expect"! well i expected hot water, air conditioning and good hospitality, we got neither! the air conditioning was SO ineffectual even at the lowest setting. i won't be staying there again...
the last day in patong we took a motorbike and toured around the island, kamala, surin and bangtao bays to the north, and then to karon and kata beaches, phuket viewpoint, cape promthep and rawai beach to the south, all beautiful!
then we took boat to phi phi island, been here several times before, and now its lost a lot of its beauty since the tsunami (the main tourist area is still a mess), so just stayed for lunch before taking afternoon ferry to koh
lanta. first time here, a muslim island so a bit different. found some nice beaches on a motorbike tour of island, especially to the south.
then took ferry boat to krabi, then transfered by longtail boat to railey beach. nice scenery here, but an expensive overcrowded tourist place. did a couple to walks over the hill to tonsai and also up/down to hidden princess lagoon and viewpoint.
the it was back to bangkok, i took a flight from krabi airport, while ekk took the overnight bus, to save money.....
had another week in bangkok, crazy as usual, but even more so as it was the warm up to thai new year (songkran) and also a lot of gay asians from singapore, kl, taiwan and korea were in town for two big gay circuit parties. planned to leave, but ekk had an accident on a motorbike on my last day and ended up in hospital, so i had to postpone my flight back by a week. so i ended up with a few bonus nights in bangkok before flying back.
now i am back i am feeling unsettled, thinking about temporarily jacking my job in, selling house
phangna bay
the man with the golden gun.. and car and going travelling long term, and also doing some english language teacher training in bangkok this coming winter.....
