I woke up in the hostel on Monday super early, even without an alarm. By 7:00 I was up, showered, dressed, and going over my plan. The “breakfast” that the hostel advertised to be complimentary, actually consisted of 3 different kinds of cereal and a carton of whole milk in the fridge. Peace Wall

This wall separates the Protestant section of the city from the Catholics. It was thought that if they couldn't see each other there wouldn't be as much violence. It didn't quite work like that...

Within a week of closing, the scales of justice were stolen. They popped up on ebay and were sold for 300 pounds.

The gates

It was the best pic I could get from that stupid bus (speeding by). It was covered with barbed wire and broken glass. The gate is one of the few crossing points from the Protestant section to the Catholic section of the city. It closes at 8pm and opens at 6am daily.

IRA Mural

Dedicated to the 10 hunger strikers who died. A poem written by Bobby Sands, the leader of the hunger strike.

After everyone died from the hunger strike, there was a surge of new volunteers for the IRA.

Sinn Fein

The other main party in Northern Ireland, besides the IRA.

The handshake

This is where the famous handshake between Clinton and Gerry Adams, president of Sinn Fein, took place. It used to be a different restaurant, Clinton was there for lunch, and as he was walking out just happened to run into Adams, and they shook hands. It was of huge historical importance.

The most bombed

Hotel Europa is the most bombed hotel in Europe. Lots of famous people stay here when they come visit. With the calming of the violence, I don't think it's being bombed too often anymore.

Irish Food isn't bad!
