Camping l’Escale is in a quiet rural location but its big advantage is that it is about 300m to a junction on the free motorway to Calais. It’s only a 20 minute drive to the Eurotunnel terminal so we were able to catch the 9.20 train without having to get up too early. The journey along the crowded English motorways which generated a lot of spray after a heavy rain storm was not particularly pleasant but we got home by lunchtime.

We were very pleased that we undertook the journey through France to Spain. It was pleasant to renew our acquaintance with the northern coast and the Picos mountains. Travelling through central Spain was a revelation, it showed us how large and sparsely populated most of the interior is and how many interesting and picturesque places there are to visit. Our short stop at the rugged Spanish Pyrenees gave us a great conclusion to the trip.

We travelled just over 3,000 miles.
