Stonehenge

2014

I finally took a roadtrip to see Stonehenge. You'd think since I was born and raised in London I would have seen this important historical monument already. But no, unfortunatly it was just never something I got around to, well until now at least! 😉

I'd very much recommend pre-booking your ticket before you go there, because the queue for those who didn't was way too long (though it did seem to moving fairly quickly).

On arrival you get given a little audio device you can listen to at your own leisure. Seemed to me that alot of people didn't bother with it but the information was actaully really interesting, hearing all about what's known and unknown about the the stones was fascinating 😊

There's a few other other things to see around here as well, I liked the huts you can walk into and the gift shop actually had some great local products, we got locally brewed beer and strawberry wine which were excellent.

The weather is something that'll definitely affect your experience though. It was pretty dull when we first arrived, but as soon as the sun came out the whole place lit up and the whole thing looked far more impressive.

Erected around 2500 BC, the pure ancientness of it is hard to fathom,

I think the appeal of it is also simply the not knowing, it's unknown usages and purpose.

A good mystery is always so intriguing.

PS

ok I know this isn't to do with stonehenge but its worth pointing out that the Thruxton Kart Centre is only a short drive from it.

Its a great outdoor circuit with motorized karts that can reach 60mph, its not cheap but a huge amount of fun 😉
