We have an early afternoon flight today from Dubai to London Gatwick, so had plenty of time to relax in the plush hotel before going to the airport.
At about 11.30am, we boarded the hotel shuttle back to the airport.
Although we have not bought anything since the flight yesterday, our hold bags weighed in today at two kilograms more. Not sure what has happened there as we had not added anything to them.
Dubai International Airport is very compartmentalized so we decided it would be best to find the gate before getting anything to eat. Unfortunately, when we got there all we could find was a Costa Coffee. Got a couple of toasted sandwiches and some hot drinks. Not really what we planned but they were nice.
Our Emirates flight left about 20 minutes late as there were several passengers who were not happy with their seat assignments. As part of this we had a family of two adults and two children placed behind us.
Within a short time after take off, the two parents left the children alone and they were constantly kicking our seats and generally making a nuisance of themselves. We did
ask them not to, but they did not appear to understand us. When the father came back George complained to him and he had words with the children. It made us very uncomfortable for the rest of the flight.
The food on the flight is as good as it normally is. The drinks service was a lot better than yesterday's flight.
Once at Gatwick North Terminal, we went to the car hire centre to pick up our pre hired car from Sixt. It appeared that they had experienced some problems earlier in the day, and they were in complete chaos. First the guy tried to explain to us that we would not be able to fit all our bags into the car we have chosen, but we know they will all fit so we rejected his offer to upgrade. Then he said he was going to upgrade us anyway and offered us a Mini Cooper. We knew instantly that all our bags would definitely not fit in there. We could not understand why he offered us that. Finally after about 20 minutes of trying various keys he offered us a Mercedes A180 D. This car was full of
all the technology you could want. It took us a good ten minutes just to work out how to take the hand brake off. We spent a very comfortable three days driving this around, but would definitely not consider paying for it in the future.
On the way to the hotel, we stopped at the airport BP petrol station to pick up milk for our teas and some snacks and drinks for tonight.
Our hotel for tonight is the Premier Inn London Gatwick Airport East. It is only a 10 drive from the airport.
Unfortunately, as we got to the hotel later in the day we got an upstairs room and the hotel has no lifts. This meant that we had to lug all our bags up. It took three trips to get them all in. On a positive though, the hotel offered free breakfast which we did not know about.
No further meals required, just the snacks we bought earlier at the petrol station.
