Much mirth and cackling can be heard from a private booth in this "pay for" Business Class style lounge. The Stella and "PRUSSEKO " is already flowing..................a group of "Hens" celebrating a 50th Birthday and off to MARBELLLLA.......all wearing amply filled black Teeshirts with "FIESTA...SIESTA...TEQUILA......REPEAT."......depicted in silvers sequins.......are glugging away on the modern version of Lambrusco/Pomagne.

I look around as various families wander about again sipping complimentary PRUSEKKO with hard nosed kids sporting those "short back and sides" haircuts you see in programs on Gypsy Knuckle Fighting......even at 6 years of age you wouldn't want to get into a fight with them!

In the distance more cork popping noises can be heard.....

SO FAR SO GOOD......we arrived yesterday afternoon and were soon ensconced in Room 1145 of The Gatwick Hilton and stared bleakly at BBC News watching for updates as the nightmare BA IT failure unfolded. I was certain we would be spending the next two weeks in Reigate.

We spent a restless night eyeing up iPhones every 30mins. At 1230 a "breakthrough".....I managed to check in online (a major achievement in itself)......BBC 24hrs suddenly sent an alert that flights from Gatwick should be running normally! I managed a 20 min doze before getting up at 0450.........

Time Check: 0810: Gate announcement in 15 mins (hopefully)........so far so good. Flight BA2592 seems to be "on time". Last night I was about to suggest we went home picked up "New Neddy" and drive to Sicily. Only 3 days each way...............!

More to follow......
