Arighty, so I'm in Oxford University at St. John's College. I
think I'm finally figuring this whole Oxford in 39 parts
thing... slowly, haha. This has been the first time I've
gotten to a computer in a long time, it's a huge hassle to get
on the internet with laptops (speaking of which, baccary, can
you resend me your password with any capitalizations and do you
have a security program like Norton or something?)
Ok, anyways, sorry about that. Got to London on Thursday
morning, met up with Seth at Buckingham Palace. Let's just
say showing up at the Changing of the Guard on a Thursday
afternoon looking for someone you don't know can be very
interesting, haha. Walked around for a while, got a bite
to eat and upon deciding he is not an axe murderer, we
decided to join up the next day and the next and the next.
So no worries. I've got someone lookin' after me.
We went to the Live 8 concert and Seth got pick pocketed 😞.
Actually, "went" is a loose term. We stood on a railing
for 9 hours with a 90% view of one of the screens down in
the concert. But it was worth it for Pink Floyd. Met a TON
of people. One guy was walkin' by with a backpack on saying
"magic mushrooms for sale" I wonder what exactly he meant
by "magic" :-P. Went out with some of the people we met (a
fireman from Sweden, a couple from Italy and a massuse from
Czeck Republic, I know my spelling is horrid). I just have
4 words to describe that night: Long, Island, Iced and Tea.
Some of you know what I mean by that. What a great time.
Let's also hope that there aren't any security cameras in
the alley ways in Chelsea. WOOPS! ;-). I had to leave
pretty early though cuz I was staying with my parents. They
didn't suspect a thing though, I'm such a good actress, HA!
A couple of days later, I hopped the bus to Oxford and today
was the first and only day of orientation. Took a giant
walking tour around the city took a whole bunch of pictures
and met yet more people. A lot of people know each other
here, and I would to if Kish didn't have to have surgery on
My room!
My room! her appendix! I didn't find out until Professor Gruner told
me (she's a prof at Richmond and here) HOly garbage man
Kish, I was worried sick about you! I mean I still am, but
I'm glad I talked to Gruner. I miss you! You're living
next door to me! I'll take good notes!
My room has a sink in it and I'm on the first floor next to
the street. It's a tad loud to say the least, ha. We had
dinner at "high table" last night and will again tonight,
which means that we get really dressed up, stand and wait
for the gavel to strike promptly at 7:00 and then say a
Latin grace and chow down on bland food. Happy Fourth of
July! You can expect that the Brits don't really enjoy this
day as much as we do in the States, but a lot of the Pubs
are inviting people to celebrate with them. Within 12 hours
of all of us arriving here, some guy fell out of a window
and broke his leg in an inebriated state. He instantly got
kicked out of the program, so he's going home as soon as he
gets
out of the hospital. It's insanely strict here. If
one of the porters sees us drunk, we're through, kicked out.
So yeah, gonna watch out for that one. You can't walk on
the grass unless you're someone really important, I read A
Tale of Two Cities for my Dickens class, got here and found
out the syllabus changed and we didn't have to read that
one. My neighbor across the hall can talk till the cows
come home. I don't know what I'm doing this weekend yet.
they have crazy expressions here too like "he was potty".
that was the best one I heard today.
Alright, there you go, you asked for it! The update! It's
long and the end gets kind of patchy and non descript, but
that's what I'm best at. haha. Classes start tomorrow, so
time to hunker down and try and use my brain again. That
should be interesting. I miss you guys! Even those of you I
just saw like a week ago! I've got one request for an Oxford
shirt from Thai. Lemme know if you want anything in particular
and I'll do my best. Bottle caps will be collected as well.
The college pub
yeah, they had a pub on campus. Arighty, cheerio mates (I actually haven't heard anyone say
cheerio yet and I'm, frankly, a little dissappointed!)
much love, send me emails or if you really want to make my day,
or week, no if you want to make my summer, send me mail! Cuz
everyone will see that I got a letter and be jealous!
