York and on to Inverness

July 2nd 2007 This morning we stopped back in the center of town to see York Minster before leaving for Inverness. There has been a church of some kind at that spot since 927, and the current Minster was started in 1472 (it took them 250 years to complete!).
I t was another day of periods of gorgeous sunshine and blue skies, then, 10 minutes later, pouring rain and overcast skies with almost black clouds.
The Minster was awe-inspiring - the scale of everything is huge. In the center hall, you could fit an 18-story building! Celia, Christopher and Jeff climbed 275 steps of a TINY stone spiral staircase to get to the top of the building and check out the view. When we left the bottom it was sunny - it was raining when we got to the roof.
Then the 7 1/2 hour drive to Inverness. Gorgeous scenery along the way, but too busy driving to stop to take pictures.
Tuesday - Loch Ness!

There are immense windows like this everywhere throughout the building: the most of any catherdral in Britain.

If you listen closely you can hear me panting after all those steps.
