An early rise to the start of a busy day, but not until I have a full english breakfast before departing.
As I stroll past the Casino and down to Queens wharf taking in the fresh air. I thought it quite amusing as I am walking down past the Wapping dock and I see 4 ducks crossing the road (Just like the Beatles did at Abbey Road). It made me smile as they waddled their way across the road to a lawned area to meet other ducks. Walking up to the Echo Arena, I decided to go on the Wheel of Liverpool to get a good view of the Mersey river and the city from high above. While on it though, the rain came down - luckily I was not out in it and it did stop when I hopped off. From here I ventured to Albert Dock to take a look around and have a nice coffee before boarding on the Beatles Magical Mystery tour.
This was an amazing tour. Never would I have thought that I would visit Strawberry Field, Penny Lane, The Barber shop, The bus shelter and those places mentioned in the song 'Penny Lane'.
Not only do you do the drive around this area, but you get to see the homes of where all of the 4 Beatles grew up and about the story how they came to be. The blue plaques on the Lennon home and on the Paul McCartney home. The music school where John studied, and the Paul joining the school into his high school years. At the end of the tour, we were taken to the Cavern Club, where we were given a free cocktail from the tour.
This was not as big as I imagined. So small, the stage was just big enough for 4 people with their instruments and the tables and chairs were packed out with so many people. Of course it is Beatles week, and there were non stop Beatles copy bands playing non-stop throughout the day and into the evening. I dont even know if there was a closing time. Although the Lennon's Bar was closed during the day. Í had my cocktail and a few more at the Cavern Club taking it all in, before heading back to my hotel to get ready for the evening.
Tonight I am joined by my
friends from Warrington who came to Liverpool to spend the night with me. We had a blast as we heading into the Cavern Pub. Here was a tiny little pub with a small stage and ongoing Beatles copy bands from over the world. The German band were so good, Wendi and myself dancing the night away while Chris stood and watched. We all had a great time for quite a few hours. We walked up to the train station where Wendi and Chris were catching their train and I caught a taxi home.
My goodness, so many beers after a few cocktails earlier in the day. But what an awesome time it was.
