They were awake when we left...
Well, we made it! The travel itself was actually uneventful (a good thing). Flight was shorter than planned by almost an hour so we made it to Birmingham with plenty of time to clear customs, get baggage and meet the Foxalls and get their car. Very nice family and they were excited to begin their journey. Nigel was really tense about the driving for the first 5 minutes and I navigated (that was actually much harder than driving it turned out). But we managed to follow the directions perfectly (traffic circles and all!) and made it to Wharflands (our new abode) in just over an hour. The day was just a rest day really (the kids did sleep on the flight but really, is a xouple hours any better than no sleep?) So, we arrived, did a tour of the property and unpacked. A highlight of the day was a bike ride into the village along the canal trail and through all the streets in the village. The kids spent several hours on the zip line and trampoline and tree fort - not sure where they found the energy.....The rabbits are cute and pretty easy to keep up. The chickens may

prove to be another story. After dinner and relaxing over a movie, it was time to "shut in" the chickens. First Rachel collected 6 eggs! That was easy. Then Lori, Rachel and Russell tried to shepherd the little pecking beasts up a ramp and into their roost. Well, that might sound easy (or maybe not) but let's just say Chickens One - Robertsons Zero. Apparently if we can stay up late enough (based on how much sleep we've had in the last 24 hours this is "not bloody likely", they will roost themselves and we just need to shut the doors to the roosting area so the foxes don't get them. For the record, we have started this little adventure with 6 chickens. I'll be providing a daily beakcount for your interest. One final note (Don and Elke may say I told you so), there is no peanut butter on property. Mission for tomorrow - go visit Belton House and also get peanut butter (not necessarily in that order).
