Hi Folks
Venice was faaaaantaaaastic. The city was everything I remembered ...except sitting a bit lower in the water, and there are more pigeons than I remember..aabout 12 billion of them ...on a steady diet of All Bran
I have just re-read my previous blog and am horrified at the typos...apologies.
Nice to get some feedback in the way of messages...keep 'em coming.
Anyway, back to venice. Our luck is still with us. The morning we arrived we checked in at our very nice 4 star hotel at Mogliano-Veneto, after which we went straight into Venezia on the train ..only 2 stops... great.. not too far away. We spent a fabulous few hours walking around and absorbing this beautiful place. The number one ferry takes us on a 45 minute tour of the grand canal and for 12 euros you can hop on hop off.
However, when we got back to Mogliano-Veneto we found that they had had one of those festivals that Italy is famous for, where they dress in medeival costume and have swordfights and parade through the streets with floats and stuff. They were just packing up when we got back at 9pm.
I have been waking up every
night between 1am and 4 am...not sure if it's due to the mysterious jetlag or whether I just don't want to miss anything. Have to amuse myself whilst Tim snores merrily away.
Boy,, we are really getting sick of pizza!
Tuesday we arrived in London. The 4 star hotel I so carefully chose right at the airport was a £12 cab ride away, and should probably have been given a 2 star rating. First things first however.. hopped across the road to the Indian restaurant- magnificent!
Wednesday it was back to the airport to pick up a car. Ended up with a covertable Renault Megane very nice... bit useless when it's raining though. Every where we go it's raining and people say "You just missed the nice weather!"
Missed the right hand turn out of London so went to Birmingham via Bath! For those readers not born in England it is a fair way off the direct route. Not to worry, took Tim past the house where I grew up and the streets seem so much narrower than when I was a kid. The house is up for sale....no... I do not want to buy it.
The next stop was
Villa Park. On enquiring at the office was told that the Mr Ellis' secretary only works 10 til 2 (great job) and had left for the day. Also the AGM that we had carefully planned our trip around, had been cancelled until 30th November....what?
I was told by the receptionist that we were going to have to sell the shares anyway under the compusory purchase law, so what was the problem with it being postponed. I was a bit peeved, but the security guard took pity on us as we were from a "fair way away" and asked us if we'd like to take a tour of the ground with a few school kids. You bet!
We went in the director's box and he explained that there is a certain protocol for seats. Prince William usually sits as far away from the rabble as possible, so in the centre of the box. The new owner Randy Lerner will sit at the front and Mr Ellis who is now life President has been relegated to the third row. Oh and by the way, Kevin Costner sat over there when he was here last season when Arsenal visited. I used to like
Kevin Costner!
We went into the dressing rooms and this cute little boy with us absolutely loves Juan Pablo Angel and was desperate to sit in his seat in the dressing room...he was allowed to....the look on his face was priceless. We then went out on to the playing area to the motivational music they play every time the team comes out, but we weren't allowed on the playing surface as it has just been fertilised. They have just spent £800,000 putting in a new surface so it's understandable. We sat in the managers dugout or the technical area if you want to be technical. This was an amazing tour for Tim and he absolutely loved it, but guess what?....we didn't have tome to get the camera from the car...so no pictures. I have to ring the secretary next week to arrange our seat for the game so hopefully we can take some when the ground is full.
We got into Accrington about 10pm (raining) having got there via Leeds ( don't laugh.. I have never driven in England before...these roundabouts are enormous.....so we are currently at my cousin Geoff's house. We went to Blackpool yesterday (raining) and today we
are going to watch Accrington Stanley play Wycombe Wanderers which is a 2 minute walk away from his house. Stanley were kicked out of the football league in the early 60's having been one of the founder members. This is their first season back.
We also took Tim to one of those little old country pubs with the low ceilings and beams, looked like it had been there about 2 hundred years and there on the wall above our table was a Tooheys sign.
Hope you all are enjoying our postings and it's great to get feedback so keep those messages coming. Are we missing you?.....er.......we'll get back to you shortly.
