How does it feel to sit on a plane flying away from the miserable UK at 590mph, knowing that I may not coming back to it for 2 years? To be honest, it just feels like I'm going on holiday. Just like it didn’t feel like we were going, now it doesn’t feel like we are staying away for so long. The little plane on my tv screen is approaching Canada as we fly at 37000ft over the Atlantic ocean. I’ve just woken up from a refreshing nap. I’m surprisingly comfortable…kudos to British Airways for providing nice seats, blankets and pillows and for moving Katie to a seat next to mine, which was not originally the case. Oh, and we each have free wine to drink later 😊

The hard part is over now, I think. We have both said goodbye to everyone. Watching Katie say goodbye
to her parents was agonising. As we walked through security in tears, a security guard looked at Katie and said 'no liquids’, which at first we didn’t get. Of course he was referring to her crying, which made us both laugh. So there we were. We sat in the airport lounge, alone for the first time ever. Just us and the world, with the biggest adventure of our lives right in front of us. No more waiting. We did the thing that seemed the most logical…..we had a Cosmo.

Right now, we are 3 hours away from New York, and the overdue excitement is finally starting to kick in. Tonight we’ll have steak and cornbread at Dallas BBG and run down to Battery Park to get a view of the Statue of Liberty, all proud and lit up in the night. She’s beautiful, you have to see it to appreciate it. I love New York so much.
