The first blog of our new adventure! As we write this we are lying in bed in Belgrade having cups of tea and lazing our morning away...we are on holidays after all! We are two weeks into our ten weeks of travel and thought it high time we update you all on what we are doing. The plan over the next ten weeks is to try to do one blog for each country (ish)...and if we can’t think of enough to write we will just bombard you with photos! Of course, we don’t really expect anyone but our families to read what we write...so for everyone else just enjoy the pics! J
To start off we need to cast our minds back to London...ah London...our second home. It was so good/familiar/exciting to be back in our favourite city. It was an absolute joy to catch up with our friends and to catch up with London itself, it was just a shame it was so short. A few days in London is nowhere near enough time and we didn’t get to see everyone we were hoping to see. If anyone is reading this that we didn’t manage to arrange a drink
Southbank
Old English pub and the new Shard building with then you are first on the list next time! We also met a few new additions to London since we left – Jake, Evie and Ivy – what beautiful babies our friends make! Well done guys! J
We slotted right back into London life, the crowded streets, the black snot, pubs on every corner, our favourite coffee joints and the energy and excitement you get from being in this place. When not seeing old friends, we spent our time cycling around London on the Boris bikes! Excellent idea these are....you collect a bike in one location and you can drop it back in another location and your credit card is charged for how long you take the bike. The bike points are absolutely everywhere and it made it so easy to get around. We cycled over Tower Bridge and past St Paul's Cathedral, visited Borough Market, navigated through the crowds on the Southbank and even took on a bus on the Euston Road! Seriously scary that was. I (Sarah) almost got taken out by a big red double decker London bus...as good a story as that may have been I really didn’t want to go that way...so as
I cycled my little legs as fast as I could trying to avoid the black cabs on one side and getting squished by the bus on the other, Ben, being the gallant boyfriend that he is, was yelling at the bus driver to be a gentleman and not squish me. But we made it. Phew. After that, we got off the busy streets and sauntered through Regent's Park before ending in Primrose Hill for a nice glass of cider (or two) and some lunch at the pub. Kept our eyes peeled for Jude and Sienna but they decided not to join us so we just watched all the people with their fancy cars and expensive bags walk by as we enjoyed our drinks. A passing beggar asked us for some money for a milkshake....only in Primrose Hill.
We also managed to attend a true blue London house party!! It has been a while! We went to a music and arts festival in Hackney, where we sat on the street with drinks purchased from the off licence and listened to the DJ who was playing in a record store – loved it – (thanks Bluey!) When that finished we all
trundled back to an apartment where the tunes were cranked and we danced the night away...well...danced until we had to catch the last tube home...sooo didn’t want to pay for a cab!
We really enjoyed being in London and took advantage of being there to see some theatre and comedy shows...and also did some touristy bits such as visiting the London Museum and going to the top of the Shard! The tallest building in London which has been completed since we left, it offers some incredible views of the city...we’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Love to you all...next up Istanbul!
Love Sarah and Ben xxx
