Duck Park
A picture as promised earlier, it's pretty isn't it? Everything is quite green over this way.... Hello all!
England is rainy at the moment, also affecting the school days for Alex and Rhiannon. Their school had flood damage so it was closed until Monday which meant they didn't go back to school on Wednesday, as planned. So, I tried to come up with some ideas to get them out of the living room watching tv, not soo easy, especially if it is raining out. Shoot, I didn't really want to go outside all that much but I can only handle so much of The Suite Life, Genie in the House, Sponge Bob, Zoey 101, etc. Actually, I don't mind the Disney channel as much as Nickelodeon now.
Wednesday the kids didn't want to listen very well so I let them know their behaviour was not conducive to having the privilege of visiting the park they requested. Instead, we went to the doctor's office so I could pick up my application forms to have a doctor here in England. I also made them walk back home instead of taking the bus, oh - sometimes - I am "so mean" and "unfair" to them. When they began acting a bit better, we went to the duck park to feed some bread to them. Rhiannon is absolutely terrified of pigeons, ducks, anything with wings I think. So, the poor little thing was just crying and kept wanting to know why the birds were following us, they were swimming around their pond in the same direction as we were going and of course, got closer when Alex and I fed them. So, I got to carry her around the park to ensure she was protected from any attack they might be planning! Alex absolutely loves animals, really wants to have pets but Lynne is allergic to most fur and their home isn't really suited to room for pets. They are actually trying to sell their home right now and when it is sold, they plan to move out to the country where they could have animals, etc.
Yesterday we took a trip to Swan Lane Park, which is very close to their school. I saw that they indeed do have people working on the roof of the school so that was a good sign. Rhiannon and Alex took their bikes, R had some problems as one of her training wheels wasn't working properly which ended up in a lot of crying, whining and at times, screaming. When she finally discovered manners that I had expained to her early on, I got the lovely duty of carrying her bike home. Ahh, weight lifting. After the trip which took about 40 mins each way, I was done in. Oh. I must mention there were fun times at the park because they hung out together and then some of their friends showed up to give them an even better time. It was nice to see them run off some energy although it didn't make them go to bed that much earlier!
So, we came home and made some banana chocolate chip muffins. They turned out great and R loves to help in the kitchen so it was quite a nice time. After dinner of cheese pizza and cucumbers (their request), we watched "Ever After". They stayed up another hour after that and went to bed shortly after I told them their bedtime which was sweet. I didn't have to repeat myself!
Today I made cinnamon sugar toast, a change from the last 3 days of French Toast - Alex's favorite now that I've introduced it. He is actually pretty good with eating whatever I make but Rhiannon doesn't like anything new. She won't try most things but she knows at dinner that she will eat whatever is there. So, I think I am making progress in the cooking department. Unfortunately, Dave is away on Sunday so I don't think we will get our roast dinner - he is such a good cook!
I also got paid today, here people get paid weekly. I actually like the process a bit better! So, I made myself a budget so I can do all the things I want to without feeling guilty for spending. So, I've now allocated amounts for everything I should need each month. I also made a spreadsheet for the daily expenditures to track patterns, etc.
Dave is working from home today so he just told me to take some time for myself which is cool. Both Lynne and Dave are travelling this weekend, he is going to Denmark for a Rugby thing today until Sunday and then Lynne leaves on Sunday so I will have the kids on Sunday. I have tomorrow off which is cool, I am going to the "cinema" to see Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Until next time, hugs - C
