The Warwick, London
Last Night in London - Bad Pic no flash! Had a late dinner with Bob and Rich last night at a restaurant just down the street from our hotel called The Warwick. Originally we were suppose to eat at a restaurant called Polpo’s (Alpo Dog Food as Bob would call it lol), an Italian restaurant our concierge recommended (he is from Italy and said it was his favorite in the city). The place was packed and the waiter kept telling us “just waiting for a table to clear”, which seemed like forever. We ended up leaving heading over to the Warwick instead (knuckles, Bob - we really didn’t want to eat there anyways lol). It rained pretty good that night. When we got back to the hotel Chris took ½ an ambien and I took a whole one, he was woozy within 10 minutes, me NOTHING. We ended up going to bed around midnight and I did finally get a full night sleep, woke up around 8AM. Showered, packed up our bags and head for Bob and Rich’s hotel room to drop off our stuff. We got a quick breakfast and then walked to Buckingham Palace. Did I mention the Tube is on strike? No Tube service all day
The Warwick, London
Last Night in London Tuesday and Wednesday. Not a big deal, Buckingham Palace wasn’t too far. But of course, when we get to Buckingham Palace it is the Change of Guards “off-day”. They change guards every other day. SERIOUSLY!! I was pretty disappointed. Still got to see Buckingham Palace, which was somewhat of a disappointment. It looked like a state/parliament building. I thought it would be much grander or more “palace” like. We then headed towards Wellington Arch, and as we got close, we were unexpectantly met by the Calvary of Horses. That was pretty cool to see, them marching towards the Palace. We then headed into Hyde Park and walked for a while. The park is so beautiful, flowers everywhere, weeping willows, squirrels, ducks. It would have been nice to have a little more time to just sit and take it all in. We visited Diana’s Memorial Fountain, located in Hyde Park, which was nice. People can take their shoes off and soak their feet. Headed back towards the hotel and grabbed a light snack at a café. Went back to the hotel, said goodbye to Bob and Rich and headed for the train (Eurorail to Paris). Since the tube strike is going
on, we left 1 ½ hours before our train was to depart, not knowing how long it would take with a cab. It took us about 10 minutes to get a cab and about 30-40 minutes to get to St. Pancras Train Station. King’s Cross Train Station (where Harry Potter’s 9 ¾ Platform Train was filmed). The rail station was super nice. They even had Thomas Pink in there Bob! Purchased a few souvenirs and then headed for the rail. No problems going through customs, got on the rail, which I’m writing from now. Train is barely full, so we got to find a table for four and spread out.
London, overall, was a great experience. I found the people to be extremely friendly and even “jolly”, as I mentioned several times during our visit. I never encountered an obnoxiously rude people, everyone seemed very courteous to each other and they were almost always helpful if we asked questions or needed help. The people in the city seem very young. Since it is quite expensive to live in the city, Chris and I were trying to figure out how the younger Brits can afford to live in the city (unless

Gates into Buckhingham Palace they all commute, which may be the case). I did want to visit Notting Hill and some other neighborhoods, but since the tube strike was going on, we were unable to. That’s okay, it gives us another reason to come back and visit again!
We are now on our way to Paris and I hope we have the same similar experience but I have a feeling we won’t. We’ve been told over and over how the French are just plain grumpy. We’ll see!!

PS. Hi Girls! We love and miss you!! We'll Skype a little later. I'll post pics soon!
