NEX Train
This is the Narita Express to the airport pulling into the station. The trains here are so long that when they pull into the station they are going so fast it seams that they wont be able to stop. The first thing we noticed was a lack of escalator’s and lifts to get around. We had to lug our luggage up and down really long flights of stairs just to get to the next platform. Then again at the next station.
Our hotel in Notting Hill was vastly different from the ones in Japan with 3600 rooms. The distinct smell of cats piss in the foyer was welcoming. Blue Bells Hotel looks like it used to be a large house, 5 flights of stairs later and we were in our room. As the tube (subway) travels underneath the hotel, the whole thing shakes and reminds us of the start of Mary Poppins. It isn’t too bad tho, and it didn’t bother our sleep at all. Plus the tube doesn’t operate from midnight till around 5am.
The morning was a slow start. The smell of coffee drowned out the smell of cats piss so we could actually enjoy breakfast. We desperately needed to do some washing, so went round the corner to do that. We spent some considerable time finishing our last blog and adding the photos. We had free internet in our room so took advantage as not sure
when that will happen again.
As we had both been to London, numerous times we weren’t that concerned about doing any expensive touristy things. I’d always wanted to go to the Camden Markets, and neither Troy nor I had been before so we ended up walking around there and laughing at all the crazy stalls, shops and people. It’s a very colourful place with loads of character and we were even tempted to buy these really cool shirts that have working neon lights on your chest. 30 pounds seemed a little expensive tho………….but I’m sure I will be kicking myself for not getting one. Will have to search the net.
I had read that Primrose Hill was the best place to get a view of London city other than on the London Eye so we walked along the canal from Camden to the hill. Was a little disappointed when we arrived as not much to see………but coming from Japan is a hard act to follow.
A few hours of stuffing around, we started looking for a cheap suit for Troy. When the salesman asked if we were South African both I and Anna looked at him strangely,
which prompted him so swiftly ask if we were Aussie, which we agreed. He said he didn’t recognise us without flip flops on, but Troy told him that he doesn’t wear his work uniform outside of work hours.
We went in search of a pub in Soho which was playing the Manchester City vs. Tottenham game which would ultimately decide which team went through to the Champions League next season. I assumed the game would be on everywhere but after heading to a recommended Green Man pub and barely being able to move we kept on walking around in hope of stumbling on the game. 20 mins later we find a pub to sink a few bevies and watch the game in a great atmosphere. We had a date with our friend little Jess at 9:30pm so had to leg it about 20mins before the game finished.
Wow was so great to see Jess. Hadn’t seen her for about 18months and looks like living in London really suits her. Spent a few hours filling her in on the goss from back home. We are looking forward to seeing her again when she comes home for a visit in
August. Yay!!
Had another early start this morning and we are now on a train heading west to Burnham on Sea to catch up the Bride and Groom to be. Volcano has been going “Ape Shit” (that’s for you Alex) apparently overnight but hopefully the wind directions will keep it from ruining our plans. Troy has downloaded Monopoly on his IPhone so we are playing that right now. Very cool……….but I am currently losing……so those that know me well will understand how I am feeling right now…….Bugger just got sent to Jail. Damn…..
The wedding is in 3 days and I am supposed to be wearing a strapless dress……..and yet for the past week I have been practically sleeping in my jeans and a few shirts on top of each other plus one of my infamous “Anaracks”. Not sure how I will cope…
Anyway, signing off for now…………
