London
London Eye on a beautiful winter's day. Now that we were engaged and we made the decision to get married in the UK, it was time to head over there to start looking for suitable venues. We had also been invited to one of Hannah’s good friend’s wedding in Grantham and while over there planned to visit as many people as possible, so it was going to be a busy trip. Hannah’s family met us at the airport and we headed into London where we would spend the first few days doing some sightseeing. Considering England was now heading into winter we were extremely lucky to have some fantastic weather while in London, it was freezing cold and a shock coming from Melbourne where is was boiling hot, but it was almost a completely cloudless sky, perfect to roam around London.
On the first evening we decided to go see Skyfall which had recently been released, however it was still a few weeks away in Australia. Both of us fell asleep through the movie and didn’t really follow what was going on, we were exhausted, after 24 hours travelling then another full day in London with no sleep, we were wrecked. We spend a couple of days

Awesome view of The Shard. in London before Hannah’s parents drove us up to Batley where we would meet some of Hannah’s friends and more importantly start looking for wedding venues. We’d picked out around half a dozen potential venues and booked appointments to see them. There were a few which really stood out, but there was always something about them we just weren’t keen on. One insisted that there would have to be 2 weddings within the venue in different rooms, another said we’d need to swap to a different building for the dinner/dance due to noise restrictions and many others were just not right.
We were dejected, we’d seen all of what we came for plus others since we were getting desperate to find a suitable wedding venue given we had such a short amount of time in the UK. In total we saw around 10 before we ran out of time, none we liked enough to book. We eventually headed for Grantham to go to Hannah’s friends Rebecca and Jonny’s wedding at an incredible venue called Harlaxton Manor. It was an amazing wedding and we were blown away, particularly by the stunning venue, the venues we were looking at were nothing

Big Ben on a lovely day in London compared to this. It was a beautiful wedding and fun few days around Grantham before we headed back to Batley before getting ready to take the trip back to Heathrow, then fly back to Melbourne. We bought a few wedding magazines for the train ride to try help us find a venue, even though unfortunately we had run out of time. We said goodbye to Hannah’s family, then jumped on the train to London.
As we browsed through the magazines we spotted a few venues that we had missed while we were here. We actually had not considered them at all, since we were originally looking for a venue with accommodation. One was called The Mansion in Roundhay Park, the other was Castle Howard. Even more frustrating was the fact the Castle Howard was having a wedding fair….today!! Once we returned to Australia from our trip we eventually asked Hannah’s parents to scout out these venues, assuming Castle Howard would be out of our price range we focused on The Mansion at Roundhay Park. However the incredible beauty of Castle Howard, being one of the greatest buildings, in the world, we just could not resist, Hannah’s parents were speechless when they saw it, so we decided to go with the stunning Castle Howard and booked the venue, even though we both had never even been there, it was a huge risk, but if the photos were anything to go by it was one hell of a wedding venue.
