Preparations and nerves

It seems an odd and unexotic location for the start of a travel blog, Kilburn, North London. But all great journies must begin somewhere. Ours is due to start from here on Friday, as I write, the pile for packing is growing behind me, the amount of ticks on the "To Do" list is growing. But that does nothing to alleviate my sense that something has been left forgotton and undone.

Seasoned travellers that we are for weeks I have felt confident that all is in hand and after all, going away for 12 weeks is not such a big deal, but now the day of departure draws nearer, it is a big deal!

We will fly on a tiny plane from The City Airport to Amsterdam, before boarding our real flight to Delhi. How bizarre to board a plane in Europe and a few hours later to be thrust out into the steamy heat and chaos of Delhi. In the peace of my work room I long for that wild noise, for the pungents smells, the bright colours and for the shear energy of India.
