We could have used another hour of sleep last night, but nonetheless, we were up and ready for breakfast at 7:00 with AIS (ass in seat!!) at 8:00. Perfect morning! We drove back through Bodmin Moor heading towards Cornwall and an immersion into the smuggling and tin mining culture of years past.
We passed lots of fields with root vegetables, lots of fields with lots of sheep, lots of wind turbines, and lots of solar panels. Cornwall claims to be most eco friendly county in England. Another note of interest...Cornwall grows LOTS of daffodils and there is a lot of research going in to a possible treatment for Alzheimer’s and dementia treatment. Amazing!
Cornwall produced 91% of the workd’s tin supply in the 1990’s.
We made a good stop in Marizon, a Medieval town. While there we got a good view of St. Michael’s Mount. Amazing. We also experienced the joy of eating a Cream Tea. What this means is a scone that you put ( if you are in Cornwall) jam on and then top the jam with clotted cream and get a cup of tra. If you are in Devon, you reverse the layers with the
clotted cream on the scone first and then top it with the jam. To the uninitiated eye, you might think “What the heck difference does it make?” Well, you might have that thought, but I would advise you not to voice that question to anyone from either Cornwall OR Devon. Apparently this is a burning issue that can separate friends and family. Our little waitress assured us with a straight face that she would chuck us if she caught us in the sin of clotted cream first... She looked like she meant it so we followed protocol.
From Marizon we continued to St. Ives. It is a delightful little (I assume Medieval) town built entirely on steep hillsides with extremely narrow cobblestone streets. They are so steep and narrow our bus had to stop out of town and we then loaded onto a smaller, local bus. We were there for three hours so this was our lunch stop. We split a Cornish Pastie and one scoop of clotted cream ice cream. We also walked down to the Quay where sat with the other old farts on a bench overlooking the bay. Perfectly perfect day! By the way, when sitting
on this quay looking west, the next landfall is North America. How cool is that?
I have had WiFi on the bus today so I have been able to piddle along off and on and pretty well finish this. We are headed back to Tavistock for our final night there. We will have another gourmet meal tonight and then get ready for another AIS (remember definition above!!) in the morning at 8:00. We will be on our way to Cardiff in Wales via a stop in Bath. In Cardiff we will be taken to Cardiff Castle for a tour of the Castle and a Welsh Banquet tomorrow evening. This will put us at 9:30 or later heading back to our hotel with another AIS at 8:00 the next morning. This is to let you know that I very well may not have time tomorrow evening to post. If that happens I will at least try to get pictures out the next day if the WiFi is working OK. We shall see. At any rate, I am going to post this early for a change.

Cornwall
First let me say you two must really be living right to get the gorgeous weather you have had, hope it continues. So glad you made it to St Ives, we seldom go to England without spending a few days there. On the top of the hill overlooking the town is a hotel called Tregenna Castle Hotel. They have rooms on the front where you lie in bed with a beautiful view down to the harbor and all of the town. The hotel is surrounded by a golf course and has a beautiful garden walk down to the town. You might want to keep this in mind for any future trips. Cardiff is a beautiful city. If you have any meals on your own there you might want to try a Welsh favorite, Faggots, Mushy peas and Chips. The name takes a little getting used to but they are delicious. Basically meatballs in gravy. Great trip so far, keep it up. We love reading your adventures.
