A great stay at the Jolly Farmer with a very luxurious breakfast before heading south along Mallerstang. First stop was the 13th century Pendragon ruined Castle before heading along to Sedbergh for a brew. Unfortunately the cafes were closed so we had to do a takeaway and sit in the street. Some narrow lanes to Kirkby Lonsdale in brilliant sunshine until we came across a Road Closed sign, which we ignored.as usual. Why are cyclists like this? Eventually we came across a big gap In the road where a new culvert was being installed with no chance of passing. A detour through the field across a wooden bridge got us safely past and confirmed my reputation for taking people off road and into hazardous places. In Kirkby Lonsdale we had to split up to get fed and some hooligans went down to Devils Bridge to look at the posers on motorbikes with a bacon sandwich and ended up swimming in the river. The climbing started once we crossed the A65 and we found out why the village is called Hutton ROOF. As we headed north again to Kendal I met a 78 year old cycling friend of mine going the opposite way who I hadn’t seen for 2 years. I stopped for 5 minutes to talk and the group passed me and it was almost Kendal before I caught them up again, absolutely jiggered. The roads were very nice today and I especially liked the section from Garsdale to. Sedbergh which had an amazing show of roadside flowers. There was a bit if light entertainment when. Brian took one of his three layers of clothing off at lunchtime, but only because the temperature was nudging 30 centigrade. Premier Inn tonight with bikes in our rooms. We are half way through the tour and just getting into bathe swing of things. Hard day tomorrow in the Lakes.
