THE ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW
Lorna came home from her holiday in Bergarac on Tuesday and regaled us with her holiday stories, she was also happy to see all of the work that the four of us had put in around the house and garden.
On Thursday it was the Royal Cornwall Show, we were up and away really early, i.e. 6am as we had to get through the traffic before the show started arriving at the showground, luckily we got to park in the exhibitors car park close to the Southern entrance. We got in with no problems thanks to Digory supplying us with a couple of show tickets.
We were very impressed with the new shearing shed and hung out there for a couple of hours as we had arrived about 7.30am, we got to watch one of the girl Shearer’s that had come down from Yorkshire getting interviewed by BBC Radio Cornwall. We also had a guided tour around the new shed by Digory, it is amazing the way that he has got it all running so smoothly and yes we got to see the black board that we had painted.
As 9am came around
we headed off for a walk and stopped off at the falconry show for a display of three Birds of Prey, one of which did not want to play really did not want to come back. This was followed up by encouragement to go over and see the ferret racing, well we went over and listened to some old bloke rambling on about how he did not realise the traffic getting in would be so busy and how late he was for 20 minutes, forgetting to sell the tickets for his minute long race.
We wandered around a few stalls and stopped off briefly at the ironmongery stall which had someone hard at work, followed by the Young Farmers tent and a load of Arts & Crafts stall, one of them having Cornish ’Drekley’ clocks. Liam spotted Colonel Charles Ingram, he of ’Who wants to be Millionaire’, cheating that is, fame tending his wife’s Jewellery stall.
We saw much of the shearing competition during the day as well as many animals and sampled some lovely Cornish food and drink. After grabbing some lunch we headed back to the Shearing Shed for a bit of the Competition where Charlotte’s
cousin Matt Truscott was doing very well.
It soon came time for Prince Charles to arrive with his entourage, where Uncle Robert got presented to him Whilst Digory was commentating on the competition, which soon came to its conclusion and Digory was presented to the Prince. Matt was coming off the stage at just the right time, so another member of the family was presented to Prince Charles and Charlotte elbowed her way to the front to take as many photos as she could.
After a few words from the Prince at the opening of the new Shearing shed we headed off, spotting John Craven on the way out. We managed to find the Vita blender stall and sampled some of the juices that they were mixing up, followed by finding Charlotte’s ideal Jacuzzi. After a quick rest and a look around the camping tent and the wedding tent, we headed off for a look around the flower tent which was amazing then a quick cider whilst listening to some live music.
On the way back we got chatting to a couple at a liquid gel candle stall about the virtues of our trip to New Zealand
and encouraging them to go and visit at the next opportunity. We got the call from Digory who was finishing up so went back and met up with him before hitting the fresh donut stall on the way back to the car.
What a lovely and exhausting day, we went back home via some beautiful back lanes and let Lorna know that we were en route so we had a lovely home cooked supper on the table to tuck into before we headed off for a well deserved bed. Night, Night all.
