The 1st of August is a bank holiday in Switzerland, it's their National day. They celebrate the creation of Switzerland, this year it is the 783rd anniversary. And, like a miracle, the sun is out today!
I met at 5pm with Beatriz, an exchange PhD student in our department. We first went to the Luminarium. It is an inflatable structure inside of which you can lose yourself. The sun light illuminate each room in blue, red or green depending on the colour of the structure. They play classical music in the background. It was a bit of a weird experience.
We spent the rest of the afternoon/night in the park La Grange. Food stand had been installed for the occasion and there are concert all day. Our main to be here is to see Renan Luce who is playing at 22.15.
I didn't really know what to expect from him. I know few of his song and I was a little bit worried that it might be a little 'boring' live. It was not! I really enjoyed the show. Renan Luce plays with four other guys: one at the keyboard, one at the battery, one at the electric guitar (this
guy was jumping all over the stage like crazy, hilarious) and one at the base (this guy came in with eating a lollipop and became more and more lively as the show went on). Renan Luce started with some slow'ish songs to warm up the public. He played some songs I had never heard before but I enjoyed those as well. But I think you need to understand French to fully appreciate his songs as the lyrics are really witty and funny. Excellent evening!
