A day on the high seas - well almost. Christer had us fed well got breakfast then the plan was to go on his boat onto the lake which Karlstad is famous for.
We packed a lunch and a few drinks and on our way to destinations unknown.
Through town then onto areas that didn’t look like boat places until we came to a river where the boat was moored. A little 21 foot cabin cruiser. A vintage diesel putt putt effort.
Got organized and away we went. Very comfortable and re-assured by the skipper, in his skipper hat, that we were safe and sound on his boat.
Out through the channel then lots of weeds and into the expanse of lake Vanern. This lake is huge and feeds out into the sea. Christer is taking us out to the mouth of the sea and then back into the lake where we will eat and go for a walk to the sea.
A little bit of rain so we raise the roof and sides for protection then the sun comes out so the roof is down again. Waters are a bit choppy but not sea sickness
material.
Lots of islands here - around 220,000 - yes lots. Some are just rocky outcrops but count as an island to the Swedes. Many islands have summer houses built on the shores. Very pretty houses, many with their saunas built on the shores so they can heat up then jump into the lake to cool down.
Finally come to the sea. Water changed from choppy to rolling waves. No problem until we turn around. Boat lurches from side to side until we are going back into the lake and the sea is following us rather than us across the waves.
Finally get to our mooring spot. Tie up and go for a walk in the forest. This is on a boardwalk and even has a proper long drop toilet. Get to the sea and watch the waves coming into the rocky beach. Very relaxing. Back to the boat and our pre-prepared lunch. Ahh the serenity……
Head back to the marina. Different route this time. More summer houses. Very nice but also very expensive. Some are huge, some small but all have the same idea - get as close to the water as possible.
Tied
up and a quick tour of town. Do an art gallery where a famous Swedish water color artist (Lars Lerin) has an exhibition. Interesting stuff.
Back home and we suggest to Christer that we will take him out for dinner. No. He has something organized for us. Ok.
Tonight we are having moose for tea. BBQ style. Very nice as well. He also provides the wine so very spoiled.
We sit and chat until it gets dark then the candles come out and we chat some more. We have been very spoiled by Christer and thank him very much. He also thanks us for his English lessons. Not sure how we taught him too much but he says it has been good for him.
Late night but good night. Now for sleep.
