We drove the final 100k to the Mediterranean and arrived at Peniscola. We had intended to travel to the coast from the Madrid area in a day or two, but this huge corner of Spain which was unknown to us has been so beautiful and interesting, it has taken us six days!

After having spent the last week in desolate and largely empty countryside we were appalled to be reminded just how over developed the Spanish coast is. Peniscola’s fortified old town situated on its promontory jutting into the sea was also something of a disappointment. We felt the castle had been over refurbished and the narrow streets were spoilt by many shops selling tourist tat.

The local camperstop was large and very busy but the owner managed to fit us on for the night.
