About 15 years ago we camped on the North Spanish coast and spent a fair amount of time in a small but rugged mountain area 20k inland called the Picos de Europa. After saying goodbye to Mike and Sylvia we drove about 50k through a steep sided gorge to a pleasant campsite just outside the town of Potes in the heart of the mountains.

We walked into town enjoyed the market and then had a cheap and filling lunch of local food before plodding back up the hill to the van. The rest of the afternoon was pleasantly spent chatting to our English neighbours, one of whom by coincidence knew some friends of ours, Nick and Pauleen Nicholls.
