Spain, ranked 23rd on the HDI scale, is a medium sized country in Western Europe with a population of about 47.5 million people. Although ti ranks lower the the U.S., Spain's life expectancy is about three years higher, with a 81.6 years compared the the U.S. 78.7 years. However, people in the U.S. receive more of an education, with 13.3 average years compared to Spain's 10.4. With a HDI score of .103, Spain has less gender inequality than the U.S., which has a .256 HDI score.
