On a beautiful sunny day there are few better sights than a glorious lake, fields of wild flowers and a sky full of twittering birds. Luckily Mother Nature smiled on us and we were able to get down to the laguna at Pitillas without seeing a cloud in the sky. We arrived on the day of the "Fiesta del Agua" which we assumed would mean activities and people, but the visitors' centre was closed for the occasion unless you had pre-booked a guided visit which was a bit of a shame.
Nevertheless, we had a great time walking around some of the lake. The winter rains have left many of the footpaths completely flooded and we had to be brave and imaginative at times to continue our walk. The birds were shy but noisy. Eventually we saw quite a few different species which, thanks to Trish's book and some Facebook friends, we have been able to identify! The fields are still resplendent in the colour of wild poppies and other flowers. Hideous for the hay fever but wondrous for the eyes!!
Having negotiated the sodden banks of the lake, we decided
on a drier footpath to take us back to the car. This took us past magnificent vineyards and mammoth irrigation contraptions for the crops. All was well until we past a little too close to four dogs guarding some stables. Luckily there was a fence between us and them, but would it have held the dogs off if they had decided to attack - we doubt it very much.
So, another sunny day in Navarra. They have been few and far between this year but believe us when we say we are trying our best to make the most of them.

What a lovely walk you had and your pictures of the birds are great. What camera do you use for that? Continue to enjoy.
